OK, I need more advice...

I have two attys that are doing the same thing. When I try to drip on them, they behave as if they are dry. I drip two drops - the same as I did with my other attys. I get maybe a puff out of it, but it smells kinda burnt. The next puff smell like burnt metal. I tried adding more drops, and, of course, it floods and leaks out the bottom. (it's a 510, btw)

If I put a cart on them, one works fine, just the draw is a bit tight, and the other will go for one or two puffs, but then behaves dry again. The first one is old, the second one is new.

The new one never really worked right, it was like this from get go. The old one seemed to be ok for a week or so - I used to be able to drip on it. But not anymore.

It seems as if the atty itself is not wicking well. Does that happen? What do I do about it?

I blew them out. several times. No diff. Too late to try a dry burn, or so I've been reading, though I'm probably going to try it with my next one.

The second one is only three days old - it can't be *that* dirty...

And then I have one that's been around for almost a month now and works just fine. And I haven't done *anything* different...

Though now that I think about it, all my attys that started smellling burnt and wouldn't come back had one thing in common - I used them with JC (old style) vanilla ice cream... I didn't particularly like it by itself, and tried mixing it with different things to use it up... Could that be it?

I mean, I'm up to *five* bad attys in a month - *something* is going on. Either that, or I'm cursed. :)

Thanks,
Briar

I will tell you what this sounds like to me.

It sounds to me like you put two drops on a completely dry atomizer.
A completely dry atomizer needs to suck up those two drops and can then take a few more.

If your atomizer is completely dry, you need to give it time to soak up the juice.
If you put more juice on it before it has soaked up what you put on it already, then you might flood it.

I might be totally wrong that this is your problem, but it sure does sound like it to me.

OK, then, the procedure for a completely dry atty would be to add a couple of drops, then wait a bit, and add another couple of drops?

Or, alternatively, forget about dripping for a bit, add a couple of drops, and a full cart, and work with that until the atty is happy - and then drip?

And, also, the ones I have all smell burnt now no matter what I do - should I soak them in something before doing anything else?

Thanks so much, folks.

i agree it is hard to find that line between dry and flooded, i would clean out ur attys and start over.
also mixing juices can sometimes cause problems with attys espicially when ther of different viscosity

i know there was a problem with the old JC juice sorry i dont know what is was off hand but u should be able to find a post on it(in know it hd something to do with destroying attys)

you sound like u would bennifit from getting an e-dobit

I don't think you have to add the full cart to get the atty primed, that's just how I do it. I doubt regular drippers do that. :) So yeah, you probably want more than 2 drops but I think you want to wait a moment in between each drop to give the liquid a chance to soak in rather than pool at the bottom of the atty and flood it. You want the liquid to soak into the mesh, not pool.

With the burnt smell, I can usually get that out by blowing them out, repriming, burning off some of the liquid, add a couple more drops, then vape.

Hope this is helping, I'll admit to not being a pro at dripping. I like my carts!
