Not to derail and it may be better to start my own thread but I'm super new to the vaping. I have a Innokin Proton and would like to start rebuilding. From what little I've researched this seems like an interesting rta and may try it. What are some of the main reasons to rebuild your own? I'm pretty sure I can handle the rebuilding but wasn't sure it would even be worth it as opposed to just buying the scion mesh coils.
You get to control everything. But the biggest single reason would be you can get better flavor building your own. It’s more work but worth it for sure if you're up for the task. Just get some wire, cotton or rayon(I use rayon), pair of flush cut wire snips, mandrels to wrap wire around to make coil, good pair of sharp scissors to cut wicking material, precision screwdriver, and rebuildable atomizer. Good luck to you. Oh and paper towel to clean up juice spills.

Thanks for the replies. So for the wire. 24 kanthal seems like a good start? Any preferable place to buy these items? cotton, wire, etc.

And obviously it's up to me on the Augvape but does it seem like a good one to start with or are there better options.

Thanks again
The augvape is as good as any to start on I’d think. For materials, I bought a box of rayon on amazon, Sally’s I think, they sell cotton and rayon in almost identical boxes so if you want rayon make sure it says it. A box is like $5 and will last forever if you go that route. Wire you can get on amazon although some will disagree. Temco is a good place to get wire or rtsvape I think it’s called. Maybe get a few different gauge wires. Or try 316l ss, that’s what I like, in 28 gauge or 26. I got a pack of 22,24,26,28 gauge ss wire 50feet a spool for pretty cheap off eBay I think. It was kbee I believe it’s called. Some people say it’s dirty wire but mine was all clean so... as for wire snips and a coil tool if you want that rtsvape or amazon has tools also if you want to go that route. Someone will chime in here and help out or you could start a thread asking about starting rebuilding where to get supplies and you may get more replies. Anyway hope I was of some help and good luck. It will take a bit of trial and error but supplies are cheap so don’t be afraid to start over and rebuild often early on to get lots of practice and find out what works best for you.

Not sure if I should start a new thread but I'll start here.

The intake came in today along with the 24 kanthol and cotton. What size of coil would be a good start and what ohm should it be?

How many watts do you want it to run well at and do you like a warm or a cool vape?

I'm only a few weeks into the vaping thing so I can only share what I've came up with so far. I have the Innokin proton and have been using the scion mesh setup. I have it set at 60 watts and that seems to be working for me.
Is it a warm or cool vape?

Nice middle of the road starting point coil would be 3mm 5 wrap spaced coil, brings you in at about .49Ω (might have been better off with 26g or 28g for a warmer vape). If you want to try a parallel coil it would be around a .27Ω, and a warmer vape.

The single coil at 0.5 ohms is a great starting point jkbobell. IMO it will max out at around 45 watts and probably vape best at less than that. I have very little experience with parallel builds so will leave that to Letitia :)

If you only have the 24 gauge Kanthal and you want to put more power through the atty or cool down the vape you can add another wrap on the coil one at a time until you like the vape. 6 wraps will take you to around 0.6 ohms and go up to around 55 watts, 7 wraps at 0.7 ohms will get you to around 55 watts. The last will I believe be a pretty warm vape at 55 watts.

Would those numbers work for a dual coil also? For instance the zeus dual rta?

When using dual coils of say 0.5 ohms each you will have a final build resistance of 0.25 ohms, half of each coil. Ultimately, the resistance of a build in a regulated device doesn't matter as long as the mod will fire it. This is all about the watts.

Give one build a try, start with lower watts and adjust to taste. Have fun and enjoy the ride :thumb:

I just received the Intake in the mail late yesterday and didn't have a chance to build it yet. I usually run a 26/32 ss Clapton in my zeus tanks and am going to try that in this one. My coils usually come out around .45 or so. I can pretty much guarantee that I'm not going to like the tip that came on it but do like the color. I'm usually not liking the short chuff tips.

I got Clapton coil put in my intake that came out about .43. This is definitely a restricted DL tank. I'm running it wide open at 26 watts and I can't imagine running this one at 50-60 watts. I could be wrong though. I am fairly impressed with the flavor I'm getting so far.

I've had my Intake for a week now and the flavor is just as good as my favorite tank the Engine Nano BUT, like everyone is saying, the airflow is quite restricted. You can trust the youtube reviewers on this one. Everything is great about this tank except the airflow. With the Nano I use it with the airflow open about 1/3. I can use more or less air when I want but with the Intake I use it wide open and its a tight draw. I'm sticking with the Nano.

What I love about this tank is that it doesn't leak even when left on it's side for awhile...same as the Nano.

Somebody asked about the 510 DT. They work just fine with the included adapter.

I'm really liking it. Letitia, if you're ok with a restricted DL then I'd recommend it so far. I'm giving the stock tip a go and it's not bad so far. I figured as short as it is that the top of the tank would get hot and it would be uncomfortable but it isn't so far.

I have no doubt that I would have a nip tip on it anyway. Will probably pick one up when my budget recovers from diy orders. Have grounded myself from all diy vendors. lol
