Next time you are cleaning your auto battery take a piece of paper towel, twist it into a tail, dip that in alcohol, squeeze out any excess alcohol, then insert it into the battery post hole. Keep twisting the paper towel in one direction until it won't feed anymore. I was surprised how much gunk I was able to pull out that had collected on the connector wires.

good idea . . . just be careful not to try this in the track that surrounds the post (in between the threads and center post). I inadvertantly twisted the wires until they snapped. Ruined one of my favorite batts.

There are wires in the track between the post and the threads? I can't see any wires in there. I may have misunderstood you.......

No, but what happened in my case was this. I was twisting a paper towel, soaking it in alcohol, and inserting it into that track. Not thinking about it, I'd spin the battery between my fingers while pushing down on the towel. This caused the center post to spin as well, twisting the unseen wires underneath until they snapped from the tension.

I hope this makes sense, but it is kinda hard to explain. I would just hate to see it happen to someone else. I cried myself to sleep that night.
