Hi all,

So far, after having tried some of the most popular vendors/flavors recommended on this site, I've found a good percentage seem to have a very similar sickeningly-sweet undertaste, very reminiscent of hard candies such as Jolly Ranchers. It's most prevalent in fruit flavors, but also seems common in most sweet flavorings such as dessert. PG/VG/Nic levels don't seem to matter; it seems more like a base flavoring that some vendors use. I'm hoping by listing some examples of juices I tried and didn't care for, someone may be able to point to an alternative vendors to try who taste very different.

Mt. Baker's Vapor - Strawberry, Admiral Berry Crunch, Maui Sunrise
Killer juice - Apple, Rainbow Sherbet, Shamrock Shake, Strawberry & Banana, juice Fruit, Fruity Loops
Hell's Vapors - Green Apple

My go-to supplier right now is MadTown Vapor, and I've found their sweeter juices do not have this undertaste. Not sure what Dino does different, but his flavors somehow avoid the "Jolly Rancher Syndrome".

Has anyone with similar tastes recommend alternatives (or point out what other vendors may have an undertaste similar to the above, so I can avoid them)?

Could it be sucralose? You can suspend it in PG and add it to flavors. It's very potent as I'm sure you are aware from your friendly neighborhood coffee house. Sucralose is about 1000 times sweeter then table sugar and is therefore a great sweetener for less calories. I don't know (and will not implicate) that these companies are using it as a sweetener but it is always an option when making something very, very sweet. Just two cents from your friendly neighborhood chemist.

You said that PG/VG don't seem to matter, but you didn't say what proportion you're getting from madtown -- I've heard that VG has a sweet taste of its own, and I know that both PG and especially VG are often used in candies and other foods.

I suppose it could be sucralose, since that's probably the major sweetener in ejuice, and some people apparently have a problem with the taste of it -- to me it just tastes like sugar, but aspartame tastes nasty -- though some folks say *it* tastes like sugar to them. It might also be ethyl maltol -- which apparently tastes like cotton candy, but is often used in ejuice just as a sweetener.
