Hi All,

I posted recently after finding my first e-cig (an E-Lite from UK company) had a horrible plastic taste. I bought some more juice to see if that was the problem (totally wicked, UK) and that was just as bad. I now think the problem is that both me and my wife can taste the PG, its a foul plastic taste. I even remember at gigs that I always hated the smell of the smoke, which is the same thing. So the last thing to to try is a VG juice. I'm surprised more people don't have this problem. To me and my wife its really a strong, sickly taste.

Anyone else find this???

Thanks,

Theo

I'm not sure about the E-Lite. I like VG better though. PG to me isn't plastic but it is harsher. I can't imagine you'd find that taste with this juice if you haven't already tried VG based:

VG based

I think in UK you could get some VG (the USP kind) at your local drug store. You could dilute your juice or try the VG straight.

Or looking at it you've already tried VG? I like VG better too but took me some time to figure it out.

All new e-cig's have a nasty tasting primer on the attys. Terrible tasting stuff. Blow it off first. It also takes a day or so for the atty to break in. Then that nasty taste leaves.
Also if you flood the atty with too much juice it will taste like burn plastic. Just enough to keep it wet, never soaked. take it apart and blow it out from the top. If lots of juice comes out the holes near the battery it was flooded.

Does the VG taste better? I was wondering that.

Like I say, you can try it. Walmart/Walgreen has it and it's called glycerin. Just make sure it's USP grade. It's a big bottle for $5 and you can use it to dilute any liquid you already have, or try it on it's own. Or put it on dry skin or whatever it's for.

It makes larger vapor clouds too btw.

I'd take a bet that if you do a search here for burnt rubber or burnt plastic taste you'll see much discussion. For me, it was the "threads" in the atomizer that produced the awfull, nasty, deploable, rotten, worst thing you ever put in your mouth taste! I felt like I was smoking a burning Goodyear tire!!!

On my 510, I removed the threads, as per a YouTube video, and me and my 510 are at piece once again!

I have to agree w/Buster here...your wick is probably getting dry and it is causing that burning taste...I watched a video on youtube today and removed my wicks from my 510 attys...BUT if you do this, you will have to DRIP your liquid onto the atty and stop using the premade filler cartridges that hold the ejuice... I stopped using those cartridges a year ago b/c I don't like the idea of any kind of fibers burning and than inhaling it..

I had the same problem, and removed my wick too. Then I removed the bridge all together. I still get a nasty burning taste and a burnt throat if I vape my atty dry. The wick was half burned black when I pulled it out, so I'm sure most of the nasty taste was from that. I try and pay close attention to the taste of the vapor so I can avoid the burning. If you remove the wick make sure you adjust the amount of drips so you don't flood your att like I did.

OK I gotchya. I have never done that to my 510's, but I know the burnt nasty taste you talk of. I was dripping 2 broke in 510's. One was good @3.7V and the other would only make good vapor @6V. They finally started giving up the ghost. I put on ne attys and had a hard time with the burnt tast also. One is LR and the other a normal. I was dripping them... but I could only get a few puffs before the taste returned. I would flood them trying to get rid of it! It was a harsh, burn your throat stuff. Finally, I pulled the drip tips and put on a full cart w/ blue foam and it is working fine. If it starts to get an off taste, I top off the cart and all is good. Ithink this is because the wick is staying wet with the cartridge on it...

Mind you that the threads help wick the juice to the coil, but for dripping it has helped me out tremendously!! I used to get that taste as well until I discovered the video on how to remove. Also note that removing the wick from a used atty can be hard as it may have already started to singe a bit....best to do it when they are new :D

Burnt taste will come from burning the wick. If you tried to remove wick from 510 or like atty, and didnt get it all out, youll burn it QUICK. Teh liquid in fresh atties is just pg. Not much flavor at all..just keeps wick WET until use. But blow it out first anyhow. Also, if your heat torching your unit- over 5 second puffs, you CAN burn the plastic cart. If you see small loops on either side of the cart, you melted it. this happens if you line up cart so the coil under the bridge CROSSES the cart, instead of running with it like its meant to. With wick in atty, you make a "cross" with the cart and bridge. Without, I line it up, but you can burn cart easy and will see those 2 loops on either side JUST above where coil crosses the cart. Its wick or cart that causes burnt plastic taste. Liquid will not.

Wicks are meant to absorb fluid and suspend directly above coil for better vape..it also acts as a barrier between cart and coil to stop fluid from falling, and heat from rising up, burning the cart itself. They have their purpose, but they can be both a solution, and a problem. Next atty that you kill, tear it apart, youll see the whole design, and realize the purpose. Losing 15 bucks now will save ya hundreds in WORKABLE atties. And once you know how they work, you can conform to work YOUR way to an extent. On a side note, 510's are horrible for dripping..rn4075s (901) are the way to go. HUGE bridge.
