Shops like that are stupid. The amount of "loss" incurred from those who sample and run, either stealing the tester tanks or not buying, is easily offset by the many customers who test and then buy. Most small business shop owners only see money bleeding from sampling but they do not see the direct revenue from customers who sample and then buy.

I am sure many here will agree with me on this. A Vaper's sense of taste changes dramatically. A flavor that I am ok with one week can disgust me the next. I may sample one flavor this week and not like it at all, but I try it again a month later and it is the greatest thing ever. Had I not been able to sample, I would never have thought about buying such a flavor.

I could stomach a reasonable limit on the number of samples tried. Something like 8-12 would be reasonable IMHO, and only after the customer has described what kind of flavor is being sought. i.e., tobacco, fruit, candy, coffee, baked goods, etc. You should be able to holler "that's it!" after trying well nigh a dozen.

Pay per puff sampling is just plain stupid. Either the policy won't last, or the business won't.

"Penny wise, pound foolish" comes to mind. How many pennies are involved in a tasting? A few drops of juice, a taster tip... that's it. Compare that to creating good will from a potential customer and generating future sales. And how many of the tasters are going to abuse the system? Damn few, I'd guess.

It doesn't make sense to charge for tasting. Greedy businesses that do so will fall by the way in short order. As the industry expands, there'll be more and more competition from vape shops that welcome tasters. The "welcome taster" shops will be the survivors.

The thing I really like about the new altsmoke location near me is the wide open tasting bar. All the flavors are out, in a tank, labeled, and ready to go. Nobody has to stand there and hand me this flavor or that flavor. They give you a tip condom and a list of flavors so you can take notes and just let you go. I assume a tank might wander home with a taster occasionally, but the business they will get will undoubtedly cover that.

Well, if the shop was selling 10 mils for say 4.00 yeah, I'd pay up to 2.00 per hour to taste, but at the normal 7.00 to 10.00 for 10 mils No, they are covering the cost of samples on juice sales alone.

If the limited me to fewer than 10 samples, I'd walk right out the door and never go back. It might take that to find a new flavor I want.
