I don't know what's going on with this new TFV8 tank. I recently purchased a new Reuleaux rx200s which works great and a TFV8 Cloud Beast tank. I bought 3 replacement coils for $20 and all 3 of them taste burnt when I vape them. So I tried using the Q4 V8 coil that came with the tank and that tastes burnt too. I even learned how to build my own coil with the RBA base and that tastes burnt. What the hell? I primed the .... out of those coils. I don't know why they taste burnt/metallic. I don't think it's the cotton that's burnt it's the fumes from the coil I am tasting. I seriously doubt inhaling that is safer than cigs anyway
So yeah, I only got 1 good TFV8 coil that was nice while it lasted. What a waste of money!
Welcome and glad you joined. Don't feel too bad, you are not the first to leap into advanced vape gear and skip the fun of finding what works best for you. Suggest you begin at the start of vaping and learn from the bottom up.

Not to worry, your battery is a very good mod. You may want to invest in a different (beginners) tank that will fit your mod.

Might want to do non sub-ohm first (Over 1 ohms, pretty much uses the same equipment, the coil/wick is built different). You will get great flavor but the cloud production is not as intense as you can produce with sub ohm'g.
Could look into the pros and cons of sub ohm'g vs non sub ohm'g before you decide which way you want to go. Some folks jump right into sub ohm'g without looking at the hidden ramifications. Successful sub ohm'rs tend to know the ins and outs of vaping. That's why sub ohm'g is tagged as advanced vaping.

Does it instantly taste burnt?

What everyone has said is important.

I had DIY liquid in a Kanger toptank with KBox 75 and it was fine (at 45w), then I used a Smok TFV4 micro & TFV4 on H Priv (60w-90W) and started to burn after 24hrs.
I think this was down to higher wattage, but also sugar or debris in the eliquid crystallising on the metal and clogging the cotton/wick.
Maybe change the e liquid?

I'd recommend what others have said too. Clean the tank. Start off at lower wattage.
Try tank on a different mod if you can?
As well as change the e liquid if possible.

What I've done with stock coils is wash them under warm water, you can let them soak, let them dry and then prime them again. (Google/YouTube reusing/washing coils, it can help - unless cotton is burnt - not as good as new but it could help)

Have patience, and you will get there!

Hi Kjef
What I would suggest to you is that you keep smoking, at least for the present. Start vaping and get used to it, learn about it, and get to a point of trusting the equipment, knowing how to avoid dry hits, having some back up devices, and having juice you like. There is nothing wrong in doing both at once and what you'll likely find is that you will soon be smoking a lot less without even trying. Then when you do finally decide to quit you won't have to do an emergency posting and telling us you relapsed. Don't get too frustrated, do it one step at a time, and only when you're ready.
@Kjef Dual use.. smoke some, vape some, then smoke less, vape more as you get used to it.

I'm using the same juice from my cloud beast tank in my topbox mini and it tastes fine when I vape, so the juice isn't the problem.
Well, there is your answer, stick to the topbox mini, or the tank part as least. That came with a 0.8, a 0.5 ohm and a RBA mini (rebuildable) right?

By the way, there is nothing harmful in cotton (well, the vaping cotton, which has been seeded, washed, bleached, re-washed and dried. (bleach breaks down into salt and is removed in 2nd washing) Mind you, burnt cotton tastes really foul.. but I prefer even that to cigarettes now. At least the burnt cotton taste doesn't linger for 3 hours. lol.

By the way, if you have any problems with that kanger rba mini, give me a shout. Been using that tank for 9 months. lol... if you search the forum for kanger toptank mini, you may find a couple vids i made for members. Camera sucks, but whatcha want from a $3 dollar store web cam. It did the job though.

** By the way, I am in a couple forums and this issue comes up quite a lot. Haven't really found anyone solve the problem enough to say "Do this" to fix it, but I would contact Smok support and see what they say.

It doesn't matter how huge the device is, you can't vape at high power without the giant sucking sound of pulling in huge vapor. That's what keeps it cool. It may just be too much for you.
That's very true. I've just started using my TFV8 CB, and got used to MTL on Toptank then TFV4, but have to suck lots more air through it to keep it cool - especially when compared to a Toptank/Subtank.
I made this mistake on the RBA when I first tried it and after several puffs got a burnt hit and the tank was quite hot.
It was either that, or to much cotton/both.
Always suck as much air through as you can in my opinion, especially when taking big hits and vaping at high wattages!

I'm not familiar with building on that tank, but has anyone noticed, if, after burning a coil, the juice in the tank takes on the burnt flavor? Just wondering if that might be the problem.
I was making DIY e juice with new flavours, it seemed to work ok on a Toptank 0.5 @ 45W. Yet when I put it in a TFV4 dual R2 RBA & TFV4 Micro R2 RBA - I noticed it burning after 24 hours (60-90W).

I think the burning was the eliquid, to much flavour, to dark, to sugary, to much juice debris - one of those maybe? But it seemed to be clogging the cotton and crystallising (especially at higher wattages) on the wire. Change of cotton and dry burn fixes on the RBAs tho.

However my point is always changing e liquid to different brand/flavour after getting burnt hits that don't go away (not just an odd one) It shouldn't make the e liquid in the tank taste burnt if you have a burnt hit imo - but it's perhaps possible & always worth changing after burnt hits!

I never change what is in the tank after burnt hits, but I know it can cause a burnt taste sometimes. Nothing worth chucking a tank of juice over, for me anyway.
What are you using for sweetener, by the way?

I use Super Sweet Cappella sometimes. I've not invested much in sweetener, bar this one, are they worth it?
Ive used that Cappella one successfully without burning.

Do you use sweetener? Had any problems with e juice induced burning?

I also use MTS Vape Wizard by FlavourArt, but if I go above 1 drop per 10ml, it's too dark for my liking, and can gunk up coils due to saturation I believe.

--

Burning due to gunk/crystallisation on coils/cotton clogging (after 12-24hr use/6-10ml juice) has revolved around too much MTS, or FA Lemon Sicily, and Inawera Mango for me. Occasionally FA Orange. Maybe too high %.

I could never pin down the source of it honestly and haven't found much online about it. Still can't tell why, so avoid those ones if I can.

Since I've been using mixes with TPA/TFA, esp. love their Pineapple, Strawberry and Dragonfruit (higher %, cheaper $ than FA).

Also love mixes with FA Forrest Fruits, Fuji Apple & Cream Fresh, with tiny bit Capella sweetener.

None of these gunk up coils too quick for me. I recommend these, very professional tasting (esp. TPA & their Pineapple).
