Hi ecig Forums,

First time poster. I've just quit smoking seriously for the 2nd time. I've decided to try Blu Cigs for my nicotine fix. I bought the disposable one in a store and I liked it, so my starter kit is on the way.

In the meantime, I seem to have back pain (which I can only guess is my lungs) accompanied by a slight difficulty breathing from only using the ecig for a few puffs. The pain is not immediate but can last for quite a while.

What's going on here? Has anyone experienced this? Is it dehydration? Something about Blu Cigs? Any information/advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm very much looking forward to becoming a vaper so this is kind of an obstacle right out the gate.

Thanks :)

I've never heard of that one. I would suggest checking the health forum. Lung "pain" or heaviness and difficulty catching one's breath can come about from either a sensitivity to high PG OR to high VG OR too high a nicotine level. I personally can't tolerate high ratios of PG in eliquid. You may want to buy some 3 or 6 mg sample size liquids in a PG/VG ratio of 70/30; 50/50 and 0/100 to see if that may be what's causing it. I'm sorta assuming you have been smoking at least a pack a day. If so, you should order more samples in an 18mg and 12 mg nicotine level to give yourself some base testing as to what works for you personally.

Hi Hula,

With my starter kit I have ordered Mediums and Lights. The ingredients of BluCigs are: Distilled Water, Nicotine, Natural & Artificial Flavors, USP Glycerin, Citric Acid.

Which exactly is USP Glycerin in terms of PG or VG.. or is it something else?

I used to smoke a pack a day, but now I'm down to around a quarter to a half a day. Of course, I've quit for the past two days so hopefully to remain at 0 packs a day.

Do you experience this with any other nicotine use (smoking, gum, lozenges, etc?)

Have you ever felt it before, in other circumstances?

Hi Atty,

I'm currently using the lozenges, and have used them many times before. I have no adverse reaction to them. I have felt this pain in other circumstances, it's mostly from some type of smoking, but with no direct cause or "trigger". Somewhat random. But with the ECigs, it's a virtual guarantee. At least with the one Blu Cig disposable I've been using.

Thanks for the help guys. Look forward to anything else you may have for me.

see a doctor. it sounds like Pleurisy.
Hi Mcmillin,

I honestly don't think it is, and of course would be happy to believe it's not. Pleurisy is pain the chest, and intensifies with deep breathing. My pain is in my back, between my shoulder blades.. and does not seems to vary in intensity depending on my breathing.

It also, goes away after a while... but reignites when I use the Ecig.

You need to see an MD. No one here can diagnose a total stranger over the internet who complains of back pain. Seriously.

Thanks. Will do.

Wasn't really asking for a diagnosis.. was asking if anyone knew problems like this to be caused by Ecigs for any reason.

Maybe I didn't make it clear that the problem is caused by the Ecig, not smoking in general.

Hi Balter,

Hope you didn't get roped in to one of those bad order places where they charge you ludicrous sums of money for the cartomizers and so on. Glycerin refers to Vegetable Glycerin. It could be you're experiencing a problem with the VG or the amount of nicotine. See how you get on with the "lights" and if you have more problems when you try the mediums - that would indicate nicotine level is the problem. How often are you vaping the Blucig and are you drinking plenty and I mean plenty of water as VG and PG will dehydrate you.

We can all play doctor on here all day but in the end a trip to the doc's will be what you need.

I did experience some upper back pain when i quit( to the right of my body around my wing area) but I also used to suffer from sever asthma and my lungs are permanently damaged and scarred, with smoking upwards of 2 packs a day it was expected that when i stopped I would suffer some drawbacks- more than the average joe(so said my doctor)

Could be a couple of things, could be a couple more, could be a couple more. Everyone is a doctor on the internet, go to webmd and ask if you don't want to spend the co-pay for docs or don't want to go or whatever your case may be.

Good luck man, don't let this turn you off of ecigs though :D

Could be coincidental that your pain coincided with beginning to vape again....after a checkup by your doctor or pulmonologist:

ROLYGATE wrote up a fantastic thing about figuring out how to sleuce down whether you are allergic to PG, VG, or even flavoring.

Its a process of elimination thing, very useful. I just gotta find it.

Basically vape plain VG, then plain PG, see what happens.
If no problems, add flavoring to whichever one didn't cause you problems.

I realize this takes a few weeks, but only way to track down problems is by process of elimination.

Could very well be one of those things.

It could be so many things and I'm not a doctor. I suffered from a misdiagnosed lower back pain for months before I went to the doctor and demanded he run further tests on me. It wound up it was a kidney infection. The pain was so awful there were days I couldn't get up from bed. First thing he said you have emphysema, I immediately asked him to send me to X-Ray, waited on the spot and saw the doctor again that same afternoon, the result was my lungs were clear.

Don't fool around with pain, go to your doctor at your earliest. I doubt it's from vaping.

Back pain after just a few puffs.... you do know the ecig goes in your mouth to use it, right? :)

Sorry, I couldn't resist the urge...

In all seriousness, visit the doctor and take the ecig with you to discuss it with him or her.
As a smoker I'm sure you've had time during a bout of a bad cold or flu where you've coughed so hard and so many times that you end up pulling a muscle in your side, back or wing area. When it happens it take weeks to go back to normal. It could be something like this, but remember you're making a serious change to the chemicals your body is taking in, a positive change, but still a change. It's best to alert your doctor of what your up to and any symptoms your getting. Just in case....
My doctor has been very supportive on the subject of vaping. Best of luck and let us know how you make out. You'll find some good caring and understanding people here in the ECF community!
