Hello all,

It has been about 1.5 years since I vaped. I slipped back into my Swedish Snus habit, but my dentist (aka my wife) was getting on me about it so I saved up some cash and bought some new vaping equipment. Wow a lot has changed in 1.5 years!

Here's what I'm running right now. Questions/problems will be listed after the specs:
- Fuchai box mod w/ LG HG2s
- Dual coil in the Kylin: two 6.5 wrap (I think that's what it's being called right now?) 24x32ga Fused Clapton, 3.6mm ID, resulting in a resistance of 0.15 ohms.
- Bacon bits v2 wicks - but I'm running out of that fast because of all this experimenting so I'm going to have to return to CVS organic cotton for a while.
- Tried wattage from 40 all the way through 70.
- 70 vg / 30 pg juice (though I'd prefer to use my own home made 100 vg, I'm not even sure that this is an option yet.

My first build ended tragically. Massive spillage. Watched a bunch of tutorials. Got the spilling under control.

Now I've rewicked 3 times today. After about maybe 50 hits. I get to that "dry hit" singed cotton flavor very quickly. I started with maybe a bit too much tug-resistance on the wick. So I tried a little less. Still having dry hit/singed cotton flavor. Tried a little less. Still having the problem. Aaaand even a little less so that there's only the slightest tug-resistance in the wick. See attached image to see what my wicks look like once I pull them.

I've been fluffing the wicks nicely (or so I thought?), trimming so that they tuck just to the bottom of the juice ports... I'm kinda out of ideas :-/

I'd really like to get this thing working. Seems like a great device and I'm sure this is user error. Also, I can't "drip 'n' drive" - so a tank is a real necessity!

Any advice?

You want a lil less cotton there, mate. When you feed it into the coil you want only slight resistance when you pull it back and forth. Fluff the ends up nicely and tuck them into the juice flow port, but leave a little gap between the bottom of the port and the ends of the wicks.
There is a fine line between too much and too little cotton ;)

Hmm, interesting point, thanks! Maybe that's why I get some bubbles "stuck" on the juice port. Sometimes I can jog them free, but if I have too much cotton clogging up the port, maybe that could explain it!

Thanks!

I hope you can get the Kylin working. It’s great that you’re back to vaping! But the Kylin is notorious for the issues you are having. There is a Vandy Vape Fan Page on Facebook. Tons of peeps love it, also tons that can’t stop the seepage no matter what & tons of debate on whether it’s user error or manufacturers defect, VV replaced tons of bases. Good luck!

make sure you can move around the cotton inside the juice flow control, too much on it will choke the wicking, hence the dry hit.
also, I hope you dont get the bottom seeping issue with your Kylin, several of us here at ECF (or many? im not sure lol) gave up on Kylin because of this issue. VandyVape even sent me a replacement deck, but no, still got the same issue.

Thanks all - great tips to start on! I'll rewick tonight and see how it goes. Unfortunately it'll be with CVS organic cotton, because that's all I've got left and funds are low LOL :)

Side question: anyone have any issues with the Kylin during altitude/pressure changes? I live in the American Southwest, and I take a lot of roadtrips for camping and hiking. That means lots of altitude changes, sometimes several thousand feet within a day. My old Kayfun couldn't handle it - it did ok when maintaining pressure but leaked like a sieve when I'd go up or down ~1000 ft, so I always ended up using Swedish Snus or analogues on my road trips. Now I don't mind freezing the rest of my sealed Swedish Snus for situations like that, but my goal is to never touch an analogue again. However, it would be optimal if I could have a 6ml tank like the Kylin that didn't spill my juice everywhere when I drove up a mountain or into a canyon a ways.

Also: can the Kylin be wicked correctly such that it can handle juice that approaches 100% VG? I know my Kayfun never could, but that's old tech by now.

Thanks everyone!

dual coil 3.6mm ID? that's a lot of cotton imo.
I usually stick with 2.5 - 3mm ID coils.
Hmm. Yeah I'm confused on this particular point - my first few builds were 2.8mm (using those coils in my RDA right now)... but then I've had guys at my local B&M say my 2.8mm coils were too small and suggest as high as 4mm. So I decided to go part-way and go for 3.6mm.

(Isn't it weird that my local Home Depot doesn't sell pure metric drill bits?)

Wow, this is getting maddening. I just spent 1.5 hours at my B&M, where they were very friendly and helpful - but I rewicked twice right in front of them while they watched... dry hits again. Built some 2.8mm coils again, wicked a third time again in front of them. They had to close, but by the time I got home I was getting dry hits.

At this point I've tried... wow, everything I can think of. Including alternating hits with air hits in the hopes that it would draw juice in.
