Two months ago I purchased a starter kit of an X6 battery topped off with a Kanger tank and used it to dramatically reduce the number of cigarettes I was smoking in the first few days. After getting my teeth cleaned, I was down to one or two cigarettes a WEEK. I'd realized that to be able to completely quit, I would need a second tank so that could change up on different fluids throughout the day to keep my taste buds from numbing out (Funny, I never thought about the taste when I smoking), so I purchased a Kanger Mini II, since the coils were interchangeable and I had just bought a pile of new coils.

Within a month and a half I had no desire for the 'real' thing anymore and quit buying cigarettes altogether and occasionally smoking one just to confirm that I no longer enjoyed it.

All was going wonderful... until Thanksgiving Day, where a few hours after declaring to all the guests that I'd finally given up a 30 year bad habit when disaster struck. The battery simply failed me and despite all my efforts would simply blink 8-9 times no matter what I did. I tried plugging into the charger, however the green light was just indicting that there was nothing attached or that the battery was fully charged, which I knew it was not. I was able to pull up the center pin (a solution for many online), but this did nothing.

Since I knew I would not make it through the big meal without desiring a vape or a smoke (preferably a vape), I resigned myself and purchased a pack of cigarettes. This morning I was the first one at the store to buy a replacement battery and found that the cheapest solution was to purchase the same starter pack I had originally. The clerk felt bad, so she threw in an extra tank (turns out the be the new Kanger III) and a bottle of juice, which put me back in business.

Since smoking a few cigarettes NOW simply makes me sick to my stomach, I knew that it is probably wise to have a battery backup and begin to do some research online when I stumble across a comment saying that it is possible to open the X6 case (I'd never noticed the hairline separation between the two parts). Figuring that it's worth the attempt to fix this not so old battery, I begin to wrestle around attempting to wrench the two parts apart for 15-20 minutes when I noticed that the battery light is NOW blinking as it should. I connect a tank and it starts up like a charm. I plug it into the charger and the green light changes to red as it should.

Lesson learned? If I want to ensure that I never have to invade my lungs with smoke ever again and end up feeling this queasy
, I have to make sure that I have a backup for EVERYTHING, including tanks, batteries, chargers, juice and coils.

...oh crude! I just realized that the Kanger III uses different coils the other 3 tanks I now own. Oh well... it's STILL cheaper than smoking I guess.

Now that's what I call prepared....Some might call it an addiction....Admitting it is the first step to recovery :D

My backup plan does not account for the Zombie Apocalypse, but I do have enough to prevent all but the most catastrophic situations.

Two Itaste vv 3.0 batteries in rotation
3 Mini Protank 2's in rotation.

Approx 100 ml e-juice remaining. Another 18mL arriving today.

2 Mini Protank I's as backups
2 Mini Protank 2 replacement glass as backups
24 2.5 ohm kanger protank Heads

"...2 Mini Protank 2 replacement glass as backups..."

Oh yeah, I forgot that I have a few on order which should arrive in a day or two. Now that I have four tanks instead of two, the extra glass is now a backup of a backup. I'm not quite ready for an Apocalypse myself, but I'm a lot closer now.

Note to self: I have to pick up a generator and extra gas cans just in case the sun is blotted out by nuclear winter.

I'm just glad to be back in business. Vaping may not be the easiest route, true, but I just can not believe now just how long I flooded my lungs with something that now makes me want to puke. I'll have to save that story the next time I hear an ignorant comment about how ineffective vaping is to quitting smoking.

Now you're learning. ;)

Ignorance can be overcome. Unfortunately, there's a lot of "stupid" out there too that can't be.

The X6 is nice little battery. Mine lasted almost 7 months with 1 o-ring replacement. But it finally died. pulled out the 16450 battery in it (which was fine.. the circuit is what fried.. and then I fried the battery setting it down amongst a few evods.. grrr..) and I now have it as the base of a cobbled together usb device and a rechargeable 700mAh 14500 battery a bit of copper tubing. Still charges with the usb ego charger..

But, as titled, backups of your backups of your backups!!

my husband and I started vaping Nov 2 and we both just had a small ego battery...well, after a few days, we realized that we each needed a second one...bought a "starter" kit that came with 2 batteries, and we each had 2. now he has a MVP2 box and gave me one of his ego batteries so I have 3 that I keep with me at all times....he wants to get me a small itaste stick thing, but I'm not sure about that yet

Welcome kenbu to the ECF neighborhood,

Sorry to hear things went south on Turkeyday.....

Most have found that backups to backups to backups is a "Vape Saver".

Glad you were able to Triage the battery,
But really glad you are part of the neighborhood....:)
Heard some really good things about the Kanger PTIII, only have the PTII (at the moment)....

Hi kenbu and thanks for sharing your story. After lurking and then joining ECF, I saw the phrase, "have a backup and a backup to your backup" many times and have taken it to heart. Although my equip is fairly simple, I have at least 3 of everything and even more replacement coils and clearos. I thought I was going overboard on the clearos, but now that I am vaping more flavors, it is nice to have dedicated clearos for each flavor.

Your story is one more in the long list of stories of how vaping has replaced smoking for many of us. So, again, thanks. Namaste.

And a Pa-ar-tridge in a pear tree!

(is it too early?)

That small itaste stick thing is wonderful just by the way. ;)

When I was new to vaping, a dear and wise friend told me to get backups. He said...... "An heir and a spare -- and an heir for the spare"

Provari backed by Provari backed by Provari.
I don't even want to know how many devices I don't like to back those up.
About a dozen automatic 14mm devices.
More variety of cigalike batteries that a person should touch in a life time. Only one brand and model passes the acceptability test so far.
and a DAV.

I have been trying really hard to break one of my devices but it so far has refused to die.

I have to admit, owning a backup is something I never considered until reading you post. I would have just gone into the humidor and smoked real cigars until I got it fixed or replaced, but I like your idea.

I think I will order another starter kit to put on the shelf just in case. I know my family would appreciate it if I stayed at my lower levels of cigar smoking, since I spend more time with the family when I vape instead of down in the smoke room.

Now I have the challenge of choosing a new starter kit. Oh well, it was fun doing the research the first time and will be more fun this time with my increased knowledge.
