I received a 5 pack of cartomizers this morning and filled one, vaped it til the flavor was about gone, and filled another one. No matter how hard I drew on the second one, I got no flavor or vapor. I even tried a freshly charged battery. I then took the cart apart to make sure there wasn't something amiss. No matter how hard I drew over and over, the tip wouldn't even get warm. Does this sound like a cartomizer with a bad atty?

I emailed the source and he said that though he has gone thru several hundred himself with no problems, it is posible to get a bad cart due to them being mass produced in China.

Vent holes? I don't see any vent holes on any of them. I have no problem drawing thru them. When I take the cart off the battery, I can even blow the juice back out. I think Doots is right, about it being a bad one. I just wish the online retailer would have owned up to the fact that he might have sold me a bad one, instead of claiming that he's never had a bad one in between 400-500 carts. I find that hard to believe.

In regard to the bad cartomizer subject, I just pulled a new cart from the pack of 5 that I got and this one produces little vapor and tastes like chemicals. When I switch to an old cart (which I assume is running low) the chemical taste is no longer present. I really believe you have to be cautious of where and who you get your carts from... If you have a good one that doesn't taste bad, then I'd say to save it and refill it yourself. I am trying to find a REPUTABLE place to buy the liquid online for a refill. Any suggestions?

Seems to me he did own up to it???

Almost all KR808d-1 cartomizers are manufactured by Kanger as far as I know. So the variation among suppliers is not going to be drastic (though their return policies may vary, I'm not sure that any will take returns on cartomizer packs that have been opened).

But there's one difference I've noticed among blank cartomizers from the 7 vendors I've tried: blister-packed cartomizers will almost always taste chemical at first, to me. Loose cartos or ones in boxes are much less likely to have this problem. The exception was one high-turnover vendor, where I got chemical-tasting cartomizers in a box.
This suggests to me that there's some kind of off-gassing that boxed/loose cartos can do that blister-pack ones can't, and that it takes time (the high-turnover vendor being likely to have very fresh product that hasn't off-gassed enough yet).
That's just speculation, not anything I know for sure.

At the least, I've found I can eliminate the chemical taste with a 24-36hr soak in vodka, or leaving it to air out for 1-2 weeks (my new preferred method). It's annoying for sure; I think some people just don't notice it as much, since I haven't heard a lot of complaints on here.

Anyway, any lingering taste does disappear with more refills, and it's always worth it to refill cartomizers.
When you toss out a prefilled carto just because it's dry...somewhere a kitten dies.
;)

As for dead cartomizers: I've gotten a couple completely DOA cartomizers out of the dozens I've opened. But the variability in cartomizer lifespan is why I buy mine now at $1/piece in bulk (yeah, blister packed, so I air them out)....makes you much less annoyed when one is a non-starter. :)

As for liquid vendors, you'll find tons of reviews in the Eliquid Reviews subforum to guide your picks. My own preferences: For smaller samples of dessert flavors, there Ms. T's Bakery; for quality and value I'm a big fan of TastyVapor.us. But as always, taste is really subjective, you'll find a hundred opinions out there, and it's a really good idea to make small purchases from a few different liquid vendors until you find what works for you (sure, it could cost more in shipping, but you don't waste money on too much liquid you end up not liking).

Hope something in there helps. :)

There is actually quite a difference in the cartos I got from 2 different companies. The cartos from the one company, that work real well, has loose fill and the ones I've had problems with have much more compacted fill. This could explain why ones are much harder to draw thru. I doubt they're from the same manufacturer.
