Bad coil heads or something with the wicking gone wrong?

So I sold my ego twist unit with Vivi nova slim tank to my buddy a couple weeks ago, as he needed a new setup and I was taking a break from vaping..

i bought a new twist and new nova slim setup a couple days ago and started vaping it last night. Let me note, I've become a fan of cutting the wicks in half on the coil heads to conserve juice and because I tend to tip my PV anyways.

well, I tested out all the coil heads and keep getting that burnt plasticky taste from them. My buddy told me to try sucking up the drip tip every few capes to "saturate" the wicking under the coil in case it was dry. While this proved effective at first, it keeps going back to the burnt taste after a while. We even checked the coil under a lamp to see if we could see ant hot spots, but we didnt see any.

Now these are all brand new heads...what are the odds that they're bad?

Its curious, because my old nova slim never had this problem; and I cut the wicks on those and vaped in the same manner as I am on this new one. I'm vaping the same juice, at the same voltage as I was before.

any suggestions?

    No you can't
    1. Clean your tank.
    2. Put in fresh juice that you haven't used yet.
    3. Put one of your coils that you gave your buddy in.

Basicly you Try it with out the new coils/wick with everything fresh.
*** Do not put the same juice that you were using in the tank after it's clean. ***

If it's ok, then you bought a batch of bad coils.
If that dose not help, I would think it's the juice and get a brand new batch of juice to use.

Sometimes I put the wrong juice in the tank taste bad/burnt/etc.

There's only two things it could be bad coil/wick or juice.

While I definitely tried what you had in mind before I made this thread, unfortunately, it has been a couple weeks since my buddy bought my old unit, and he's a heavyyyy vaper, and all the coils were pretty much burned out (I had used them extensively before selling anyways).

I perused around for another solution for the problem, and I came across one thread off an e cig site stating that a lot of people with silica taste from their Nova heads have taken out the little silica covering surrounding the coil (little paper looking thing), while others said that some wicks just take a few days to get broken into, and for the machine oil or whatever to essentially burn off..

Would taking out the little silica wrap possibly help any though?

I'm just VERY skeptical that all 3 coil heads are bad from a brand new set. Others
