Okay, I do not vape, but use to smoke cigarettes. However whenever anyone vapes around me regardless of type or flavor I have such a bad reaction that I start coughing, and the pain literally knocks me to the ground in a fetal pose, all while coughing and my whole body just feels like some one beat the living snoot out of it. I hurt for days afterwards.
I am not allegric to anything except posion oak. Thats it. So what could cause this, or any ideas on how to fix this, as it stands I have to be around people who do, i really hate to be "that guy" so is there anything i can do to stop it?

honestly I couldn't tell you...you say you don't vape...and you get this "reaction" from second-hand vape
sorry to say mate there is no second-hand from vaping....that's one of the biggest reasons i switched because I was not going to harm my children for my nasty habit

That reaction is quite severe.

I live in the same house as my brother. He basically lives upstairs and I live downstairs, and we share the same downstairs kitchen. He has respiratory allergies and is quite supersensitive to odors. He is ALWAYS sniffling and coughing year round. He has been very verbal about my vaping in the house (reasonable considering the situation) because he believes the vapor intensifies his allergies, so I vape only outside or in my downstairs bedroom with my door always closed except for when I go in and out of my room.

So second hand vapor can affect some non-vapers.

That makes even less sense, considering I was and still am a big proponent for it. I find it dubious that I could psyc myself to that sever chest pain and be in pain for days after. When it first started it was a buddy who was smoking on the other side of the truck I didn't know he was vaping till after the attack. I even tried to see if ot was differnt units or chemicals, with the same result. Some are not as bad as others.

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

Just some quick questions. Does this happen only around "cloud chasers" who produce large volumes of vaping clouds? Vapers in closed areas such as a car? What about around stealth vapers with minimum or no vapor produced? I know if I am around certain cloud chasers vaping fruity or sweet smelling e-liquids I can feel nauseated, but your reaction seems a bit odd.

Have you ever been checked for asthma? I have severe asthma and was a 3pad smoker as many with severe asthma are. My asthma triggers are many but mainly certain perfumes (usually expensive ones). If I get hit with a sudden, extreme attack it presents as an uncontrollable coughing fit that can double me over, feel nauseated, and (TMI) can lead to vomiting. I have also bruised or cracked a few ribs in the process.

Only a thought, but you might check into it.

Those are pretty severe sounding reactions. Just to note, allergies can develop and increase with intensity during ones lifetime. Might be a good idea to get an allergy test. Without knowing exactly what ingredient you are reacting to makes it difficult to give any kind of advice. Do you eat processed foods? PG, VG and sweeteners found in e-liquid are also very common in processed foods. Don’t know the difference between ingesting these ingredients vs inhaling via second hand but given your intense reactions I will assume you would react to any amount that may enter your blood.

I’d also ask about the type of coils your friends use. Seems a bit unlikely in this case but people do have metal allergies

I don't know what the issue is, I'm not a doctor. While it sounds like an unusual reaction I'm not here to judge that but I would see your doctor if you haven't.

In the meantime there is a pretty simple solution, don't hang around vapers, at least when they're actually vaping.

Best of luck with it and congratulations on quitting cigarettes that's fantastic.

@Glitch_ No idea on why. I'm not sure that I would call your reaction an allergy (resulting in redness, swelling, itching, sneezing, shortness of breath or trouble breathing), but perhaps it is a hypersensitivity. Like some people are more hypersensitive to paint fumes or car fumes than other people?

Tried to link another thread on metal allergies but given I am new to the forum that is not allowed just yet.

The coils within a vaping atomizer come in many different types of metal - Kanthal, Stainless Steel, Nickle, NiChrome, Titanium. It is possible you are reacting to one of these metals. Knowing what type of coils your friends use, as in what metal they are made out of, could help your doctor determine your allergies.

Doctor said he doesn't know much about vaping. Wished me good luck
Well, unless your doctor is a vaper himself, he probably wouldn't know much about vaping. Vaping is a relatively "new" phenomenon and there is a lot of misleading or misinformation on social media.
