So I just successfully built my first coil with 30 gauge kanthal with 5 wraps. I used cotton for a wick. When I hit it tho it tastes like I'm literally smoking cotton.. did I do something wrong? Should I have boiled the cotton?

did u prime the cotton wick with a few drops of juice? what are you building on?
did u prime it first sounds dry from what little has been told. We ca play 20 questions J/K
Yes primed it. Building on a protank. . Put a few drops on the wick then put it back together and cleaned all my trash up then came back hit it and even after pulling on it a couple times still tastes bad
its going away i would think, but im not really experienced...
have also pro II and the new coil (silica) takes a little to "break in"... its the same with silica...
im not sure, if its the number of puffs, but i rather think its the time... needs a few hours...

honestly, that's my experience to, for the first 5 min. personally i find it tastes great! if it was pie to eat i'd eat it!
how do you find it tastes? bad or good?
was the wick wet and what power were you using?
it shouldn't taste bad; maybe its not pure cotton.

Even with priming the wick, and even with boiling, you'll likely experience a mild cotton taste for a bit - it's a "break-in" period, and it should go away.

Success! No more burning cotton taste. I still taste a little cotton but I guess with it being a cotton wick it's something to get accustomed to. I feel like a mad scientist now after making my own coils now I want to make a bunch more. Guess I need a rta now 
did you wash your hands before rolling the cotton to put in you new coil? May sound silly but if I even forget this step it gives off a really disgusting taste and its due to the natural oils on your finger tips being absorbed into the cotton.
I use organic cotton and right out the bag it taste perfect no "cotton" taste whatsoever
