Bad taste

Hi Tom! I had to Google the KSD MAX 3.0 -hadn't heard of that one yet...but it looks a lot like the Iclear 30 which is a top coil tank. The coil will need to be "primed". That just means once you put a new coil in, you need to pull through the clearomizer WITHOUT hitting the fire button - probably 5-6 good pulls - until you can almost taste the flavor. You should NOT get juice in your mouth, only be able to almost taste it. After it's primed, you will need to keep it at least half full at all times to avoid dry hits. Those long hairy wicks can burn pretty quickly if they aren't saturated at all times. But the best advice I have been given to date is - you can always un-flood a coil but, you can never un-burn one. If you have to err one way or the other always go for too much priming rather than not enough. Happy vaping! :vapor:

Before using any new tank, it's wise to rinse the tank with water to remove any contamination that may have been left behind during the manufacturing.

Top coil clearomizers (with the long wicks) need to have their wicks wet at all times. As the liquid levels in the tank fall while vaping, you will need to "tilt" the tank horizontal or "swirl" the contents to get the wicks wet again to avoid a "dry" or "burnt" hit.

As others have suggested it's probably a dry wick.

1. First, check the PG/VG ratio of your juice. That tank with those wicks needs a thinner juice. 70% or more PG is required for them to work well.
2. Second, you'll probably want to empty the tank, clean it out with distilled water, dry it really well, and then insert a new coil and wick. Your current wick MIGHT still be good, but then again it might be burnt and if you try to use it in a fresh tank of juice it could make the whole tank taste burnt.
3. Third, before you fill the tank, put 2-3 drops of juice directly on the wicks at the center of the coil. Then fill your tank, put the top on, turn it upside down, and swirl it around a little. Turn it back upright and just let it sit for around 5 minutes before using it.
4. Finally, 8 watts might be pushing it a little with that particular type of tank. Drop down to 6 watts, and then gradually increase the power until the flavor starts to fall off or you start getting a slight burnt taste. At that point drop the wattage back down by .3 watts or so and it should work fine from there.

There's nothing wrong with the top-wick style of tank, but you've got to know how to use it. Follow the steps 3 and 4 every time you put a new coil in the tank, DO NOT OVERFILL the tank, and it should work fine. You may decide that this type of tank really isn't for you and you want to switch to a bottom coil tank. If you do then I would suggest switching to the Aspire Nautilus. That will work really well on your Vamo in the 12-15 watt range with 50PG/50VG juices. You'll get a LOT more vapor from it, and better flavor as well.

And remember for the future... No matter what type of tank you get, you ALWAYS need to prime the wicks first. Always put a few drops of juice directly on the coil, and always let it sit for a few minutes to completely saturate the wicks before using it. Taking a few puffs without pressing the fire button before using it also helps.

What would you recommend for a vamo?

Sorry, rewriting what I wrote previously. I don't own a vamo and just read that they can only vape at 0.8 ohms or higher.

I would get a Nautilus.

I use the mini and it works great. The regular Nautilus would sit flush on your Vamo 7 though.

The Kanger subtank mini with the 1.2 ohm coil would work great as well. The Nautilus is a great tank as well though. I would suggest the subtank if you plan on making your own coils.

Wow, just... wow.

It takes a special kind of person to recommend a subtank and suggest making their own coils to someone who has never even used the most basic bottom coil tank yet. Do you recommend F1 cars to people in drivers ed too?

I had very little vaping knowledge and experience when I got my Subtank mini, I obviously had some dry hit issues with the rba at first, but a quick lookup on youtube and this forum helped me get my builds on spot. Apart from the rba, what's so much more complicated on a subtank?
