I'm on my cell phone so I will keep my initial post short.

Just saw at Vapor Joe's that the Knock-Off Hybrid Zen APVs are about to come online.

There is little we can do about knock off clearos and other hyper mass produced ecig apparatus. However when companies take someone's intellectual property and copy it and in turn sell it at a greatly reduced price, well do I need to say more?

What we can do however is speak with our money by not spending it at Vendors who choose to offer such Knock-Offs.

This is going to be interesting to see how the enthusiast (us), designers/makers & small shop producers such as Zen and the Vendors who choose to carry the Knock-Offs will handle this potential train wreck.

Remember the people behind most of the awesome Personal Vaporizers are trying to make a living and a car payment. So when you buy that Zen Knock-Off you're not sticking it to Some Company is some far off land, you're sticking it to Zen!

Zen's first, who else making their own Hybrids will be Knocked-Off next?

Not everyone can afford the actual product. Not all knockoffs are being done to hurt a company. Sometimes those that make knockoffs get permission and/or licensing from the original producer of the product. This allows people that can't afford the actual name on the product to aquire said product without hurting them financially.

And not always but a lot of the time when you pay that high price you are paying for a name...

well using that logic - i'd really like a Chalice RBA - but - there's not enough made and so they are always out of stock and i'd never get $120 - which is by the way 1-1/2 times the cost of say a new Silver bullet past my wife. So what should i do in the meantime?

Voluntarily donate to the guy and hope he spends it on new stuff that enables him to make more as i sit there with no vape -OR.... spend $20 on an A7 from Empire i can have here in 3 days?

Nobody is out to hurt the little guy and the most cherished and prized mods are those special ones, but if they are unavailable (join a co-op?? hahahaa!) then we have to find our own workarounds!

sent from my iPatch - it's pirated

I don't see that it makes any difference that its a "Zen" or a hybrid that's being copied. Was it different when other hybrids were released that were high end, high dollar and limited availability? Was the Zen the first hybrid? What about everybody profiting off of raidy's genisis design, which he released freely for "not for profit" use? I'm not knock you, or Zen or anybody else. Just saying that once the Genie is out of the bottle there's no going back. Also I know how it feels when one of your favorites gets cloned, being the proud owner of three Odys. Took me a while to get over that one and I still feel bad for Imeo. I have come to accept it though. The ironic part is the Communists capitalizing on supply and demand! As long as demand outweighs supply, this will keep happening. Imeo has started doing the preorders before each production run and Zen seems to have ramped up production, at least on the Z attys. Both seem to be moves that will help balance things out a bit, but I don't know if it will be enough. I should add that I can't get on my high horse and ride, because I do own some clone attys- Phoenix clones (6), DiD clones (2), and an AGA-T+.

Patenting would help with this, but without patents its fair game.

the funniest part is reading a few threads he doesnt.

knockoffs or not after its released you can bet zens will still be out of stock becuse what happens more times then not, the knockoffs get the product into the hands of people who would otherwise never go to house of hybrids, show them they will like it and now 1/2 of them jump on the waiting list now that they want a nice one in essence making the high end producers even more popular. aga and duds are everywhere yet ZAP's sell out in hours because people bought the knock off and realize this is something worth investing in.

So it is fine to take someone's intellectual property and hyper mass produce certain vaping equipment but just not the stuff that sells for hundreds of dollars simply due to a name and extremely limited availability? Makes no sense. You are either for it or against it.

I personally see the market for the knock offs. Some of this stuff is not even within reach of the average vaper. This works well for the seller until there is enough demand to warrant a knock off. I personally don't care about the name attached to it. Be it a Zen or anything else. As long as it functions as it should, I will buy it.

I can't be bothered to put myself on a waiting list to buy someone's product. It may not be right but in the end you either make enough to sell to the masses or you suffer being knocked off and undercut. Thus is the consequence of becoming popular. It is kinda self defeating. You make something that works great, looks good and is popular. Once word gets out, everyone wants one. You can't keep up, the Chinese can. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Honestly, where would vaping be if not for the mass production capabilities of the Chinese?
