I can't speak for the OP's School.

But some Schools will Remove your Active Status as a Student with Repeat Non-Academic Conduct Violations. And this is Bad News if your ever want to Transfer you Units to Another School.

And Kinda a Drag if you are 15 Weeks into a 17 Week Semester.

A private school might get away with that. At a public school, a properly permitted demonstration like a vape-in is a constitutionally protected exercise of free speech. Look, the radicals who took over our universities in the 60's did it. Use their tactics against them.

But I'd still try approaching the official responsible for such policies to see if he/she can be reasoned with. If not, it's on.

I wasn't referring to a Demonstration.

I was referring that if you are Caught Repeatedly for using an e-Cigarette or Smoking where you are not allowed, that there could be Repercussions.

It Depends on the School. And it depends on the Campus Police.

Who wants to vape at a school?
You cant and that is a problem?

(Community College)
And, yes, banning a legal activity like that without cause is a problem, IMO. If the OP vapes outside away from people, how can they ban it? Legally? I know it's "private property" in a private college so maybe they can. But hell, I'd do it anyway and apologize later...or not.

OP: Don't sit in the back of the bus (excuse the lame use of the metaphor). Vape outside. At least until you get one ticket or whatever. Heck, I wouldn't take that crap.

OTOH, I'm not trying to get you banned or kicked out either. So you have to find out how all that works for your situation.

So true.
When I visit my son's university there is a smoke shop nearby that also sells vape supplies.
The place is packed with vaping college kids. I mean its so full of 18-22 y/o vapers I am usually blown away (pun intended) with how popular it is on campus.

I see a Lot of 18-22 year old vapers also. And it pains me because I know that Many of them were not Smokers. And use an e-Cigarette just because it is that Generations "Cool Thing" that "Cool Kids" do.

I posted this awhile back. Perhaps the OP will read it a find it and find some Valuable it it.

Not a Debate or an Opinion. Just something that Happened to me Related to Teaching and School.

I teach at a college and Many of my students know that I am a former Smoker who now uses e-Cigarettes. I had a student two semesters ago ask if he could vape During class? I told him No.

He was polite but wanted to know what the reason was. I told him that our College has a No e-Cigarette use policy on campus Policy (Parking Lots and Cars is Fine) so it really wasn’t my decision to make.

I asked him if he could get through a Two Hour class without taking a hit of his e-Cigarette? He said “Yeah, But I think about it All the Time.” I asked him if he had his PV with him right now and he pulled out an eGo from his Shirt Pocket.

I told him that Maybe he wouldn’t think about it so much if he Didn’t carry his PV to class? I asked him try something. To leave his PV in his car when he came to my class and see if it helped. He kinda looked at me funny but said he would try it.

I never said anything else to him about it but for the next couple of weeks every time I would come into class I would look at him and Wink while I pointed at my Shirt Pocket. I think the rest of the class though I was Crazy.

On the day of the Mid-Term, the student said he wanted to talk with me after class. After all the exams were turned in he told me that he had been leaving his PV in his car when he was on campus. He said that he wasn’t constantly thinking about taking a Hit or Stealth Vaping much anymore. And that he could concentrate more not only on my class but All his classes. I told him that was Great because he was somewhat struggling with the course material in my class. (Some people just have a hard time with Math.)

He also said that he was starting to leave his PV in his car when he went to the Mall, to Movies and to Restaurants.

I didn’t talk much with him for the rest of the semester. When I did it was always about some Math Concepts.

About the last week of classes I was getting out of my car when I saw a Student running towards me waving their arms a shouting something. Trust me. A student Waving their Arms and Shouting is Seldom a Good Thing. But it was my student and he had this Big ....ty Grin on his face.

He told me that two days ago he got to campus and realized that he had left his PV at home. He said that he was going to drive home after his Chem class to get it. But after class he had gone to the Library to study Math and it was about a Hour into his studying until he realized that he still didn’t have his PV. He decided just to stay on campus and study Instead of going home for the PV. That this was the first time in a Year of vaping that he had Not Freaked Out or Rushed home to get his PV.

He went on to say that he didn’t Stealth Vape anymore and if he was busy doing something, that he could go for Hours before he “Needed” to take a Hit. He was so Animated and kept wanting to shake my hand.

He ended up getting a “C” in the class. But when I saw him the following semester he said he wanted a “B” but was OK with the Grade because he learned something Very Important. And it didn’t have Anything to do with Math.

It doesn't bother me because I figure these kids would have taken up smoking instead (if vaping hadn't been available).

Also, some/many/most of these kids might be using 0 nic stuff. Really no way for you to tell. And if they took up vaping to be 'cool', they can do it without using nicotine.

There are some that use 0mg. And there are some that Use 36mg for the "Rush". I see more Young Adults that do it for the Rush. And to be "Cool". I have asked Every Student I have seen using an e-Cigarette if they use 0mg and about 1 in 15 says they do.

And yes, some of them would have Started Smoking if e-Cigarettes were Not Available. But many Wouldn't have.

To be Honest with you. I really Don't have a Problem with Any of the Scenarios I mentioned above.

But what I do find Disturbing is when a Student (or Anyone for that matter) can Not Sit for 90 Minutes in a Class without having to get up in the Middle of a Class and walk outside to take a Stealth Hit.

It bothers me. "Hookah Pens" in particular. And the hookah craze.

But....That's me trying to look out for the next generation...not be being hypocritical. It's still a free country. I just wish they would inhale clean air and that's it.

But hey, of all the things they could get into, e-cigs are the least harm. Alcohol and any burnable stuff is worse.

I hope that one of the good things that comes out of e-cigs...is the awareness of the products of combustion being so nasty. Tobacco or anything really.

Yeah... It is a Double Edged Sword in Many Ways.

And there is a Fine Line between a saying that an Adult should be able to do whatever they want and not wanting to see someone get a Monkey on their Back that can be Hard to Get Off.

I believe the OP was complaining that the ban is for the entire campus, not just in classrooms. In the case of a full time student, that would mean that they can't vape at all and nowhere on campus.

I know we've talked Zoidman & I think we've had a discussion like this. But I'll say this just to say it again. If vaping hadn't come out they wouldn't be sneaking a stealth vape outside your door they'd be spending 10-15 min in the bathroom in one of their classes. Thats how it was for my friends and I in highschool. We all went to the bathroom in whatever class we had during the lunchwave bells and we'd miss a lot of that class due to our habit. We had a cigarette after lunch that would cut into the next period and then the next lunch wave we'd go to the bathroom and see the friends we had in the next lunch wave. With vaping, kids dont need to skip a period at all they can have a vape at their lockers and actually bring their books to class :p

NC is a big tobacco farming state. E-cigs pose a threat to tobacco profits and taxes that the state greedily gobbles up. Go figure.
I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you (when in doubt, follow the money), but did you miss the part that they already banned cigarettes on the campus? It kind of shoots a hole in your argument, I'd say.

Wait students BRING BOOKS to class? When I taught high school they were so bad about it we assigned a set of books at the beginning of the year for them to use at home and kept a set in class for them to use on campus. It was the only solution to them never bringing their books to class. :p
