Tumbled makes sense now! The aluminum is tumbled against some sort of stone or media to get that look...Which is amazing btw! Smart to bring that back!

In jewelry, tumbling is used after making a metal piece to take off the burrs and clean up the edges prior to a final polish or finish. You use different media in the tumbler, depending on the material and desired smoothness. I think that is probably a similar process with the REO finish.

We used to have a small desktop rock tumbler for polishing rocks. I'll bet one of the empiremods dot com 901 Drip guards would be cool on the tumbled Reo. Or one could get some aluminum tubing and DYI. Here's a few on Amazon. Amazon.com: small rock tumbler: Toys & Games

I used to have an industrial size tumbler for my business. And about 15 kinds of media for it.

I wish I still had it, it was actually kinda handy for projects.

Quick question for anodized vs not, I have seen some scratches on polished Reo's around the site, If one were to scratch an anodized mod (God forbid!) are the scratches visible? Anodizing changes the color of the alloy I think, so would the scratches show up as silver or not?

We use corn cob or walnut media to polish brass all of the time. We've also used the same media on aluminum and pure silver & it worked great! We usually tumble overnight, or all day sometimes. (shhhhh MV)

Yes you would see the underlying aluminum. Depending on the severity of the scratch of course.
