Hello,
I’m still a little confused about basic atty maintenance. I’ve read many a times, to keep your atty wet, with a few drips, to help prolong their life. I self fill my carts, and basically puff them till a slight burn can be tasted, or vape decreasing. Looking at the standard stock filler, it’s dry on top but you can see deeper in, the liquid.
Am I letting my atty run too dry with this? Should I drip a few in, before placing a wet topped cart in?
I’ve also come across a few threads on basic cleaning, to blow it dry, or let it burn dry. Wouldn’t this be the liquid required to help it to full life.

Thanks!

You def. want to keep the atty wet. If possible, also blow them out once a day and wipe off the threads really good. I haven't used stock filler since my first 5 carts that came with my starter set. Cart mods save a LOT of time, juice and probably atty's. The two mods I use now are the spring mod and the zero filler mod. Let me see if I can find the links for you.

There are other mods you might want to try too if you look in the mods sections. These will save you a lot of topping off/refilling, wasting juice and getting that burnt taste so often.

As for cleaning, I blow mine out once a day, wipe them down really good, then reprime them with about 5 or 6 drops of liquid. Give it a few puffs to make sure it doesn't taste burnt, if it does, add a few more drops. About once a week, I run then under REALLY hot but not boiling water (hold them with tweezers or something) and then blow them out again. I DO dry burn mine for about 5 sec's at a time, do this at your own risk. Let it cool, do it again if needed. I do it until it smells like metal again. Rinse again, blow out water and let them dry for a while. Sometimes I let them dry on their own for at least 24 hours, sometimes I put them back on the battery and dry burn until it glows, reprime and go.

As far as topping off - rather than waiting until a slight burn you might go when there's a flavor drop off that occurs before the burn. As far as cleaning goes. I only clean when there's a problem - less draw, or less vapor. There are so many ideas for cleaning attys. Basically - if you feel you have to, use something that is for human consumption - many of the other liquids will leave film on the metal mesh. I don't recommend water but if you do, dry thoroughly.

The 510 atty has wicking (it's not fiberglass) in the pot by the coil and through the metal mesh of the bridge. When you lose that you've lost wicking ability. The way to 'lose it' is to pull it out or move it around to where it gets out of place. Imo, boiling can move this wicking and I don't recommend it. Also blowing out with anything other than your mouth - canned air (which also contains a bitterant that will coat the metal) and compressed air at too high a psi could also move the wicking. I use 151 vodka - it's for human consumption, it is used to cut many ejuices sold, and it dries realy quickly. But even using that, if you soak an atty too long in that the wicking can get out of place - so 30 minutes tops. I don't dry burn but using mods that run a bit hotter than the oem batts 3.7v vs. 3.0-3.2V seems to keep attys cleaner.

Using a straw mod with the oem filler helps with wicking out of the cartridge filler:

And when you top off putting 2 drops on the atty bridge helps with flavor and vapor.
