Like i said in my introductory post, i'm not good with electricity. I have read a bit on mods and it seems that 5v is a very popular operating voltage. My question is this.. will these batteries work?

Kodak Essential Dual USB Power Pack KP1850 Power pack - 1850 mAh
Lenmar Universal Powerport PPU2100B External battery pack - Li-Ion 7.8 Wh
BTI External battery pack - Li-Ion 1600 mAh

Just as a basic put it in a case and run some wires w/ a switch.
Also how can i tell how much voltage i should use? I don't have a big budget and I want to get this right the first time. If i were to opt for the Ego tank atomizer would i blow it running it straight off one of these batteries?

You would need a voltage regulator to get 5V. With just batteries some wires and a switch all you can achieve is 3.7 Volts for a single Li Ion battery or 7.4V for 2 Li Ion batteries. I clicked on your first link and it didn't even state the voltage or how many 3.7V batteries are in the pack.

Maybe you should read up a bit in the modders forum. Since you are on a tight budget and you want to build it yourself you should check out Madvapes. They have Mod kits with everything you need and instructions.

Good luck!

OK, let me attempt to make this as simple as possible for you...which may not really be that simple ;)

What you are trying to do is possible. The end result would really be a 5v mod. I've seen the very same thing you have been describing and it's actually pretty simple to build.

When deciding on which one to buy, make sure the output amperage is AT LEAST 1amp. The lower amperage units don't produce as much good vape.

You're going to have to get familiar with a simple volt meter and how it works. Inside the unit you'll find the leads to the USB ports. You need to determine which of those leads is positive and negative, that way you can keep the polarity correct. Once you have determined the polarity, it's really very easy to put a momentary contact switch in-line. If you are NOT going to use an LED then it's as simple as putting the momentary contact switch between the negative out, from the USB header negative side, and the negative(body) of the atomizer connector.

There is a tremendous amount of info in the modders forum and a lot of people there who will be more than happy to assist you in building this mod.

Take your time and have a blast!
