Hello everyone

I am very new to this and trying to make sure I understand how vaping works.

I have bought the "Thorvap" device, it uses one battery, and a 0.2R coil, showing 80W maximum.

It is still completely unused.

My initial concern is as the coiled wire gets heated to very high temperatures, the cotton, and the fluid itself, we are effectively mixing a very hot wire made of some unknown material/alloy, come cotton or other cloth and some fluid to the point of smoking and creating fumes.

My concern is, is there a possibility that the combination of the above might create noxious and toxic chemicals at these super high temperatures?

Many thanks

there is some issues that are created at temps beyond 450F.... but there is one thing for sure, once you get to those points, vaping is nearly impossible. The taste is terrible, the harshness of the vapor is choking, and its just plainly unpleasant...
why even go to those extremes?? 30 - 50W is more than enuf to get the nic one needs. There was a time when vaping was quite satisfactory at 8 - 15W with a 1.2 ohm 30 ga. coil...

Yep, always that possibility.

Which is why you need to learn about your device, it's limitations and how to properly use it.

If used properly, there is very little chance of creating "noxious and toxic chemicals". You might come close, get a dry hit now and then, and you will know it and work to correct the problem if you know how your device works.

If used properly, there will never be any smoke or fumes. The device will create a vapor, which is neither of those.

Personally I for one would not recommend that a person just starting out start with a 0.2 ohm device. I wouldn't go below a 0.5 and would definitely do my homework. Forums, YouTube, you local vaping community. If possible go to your local shop (every now and then you'll get someone that doesn't care, they just want to sell) but in my personal experience they can be very knowledgeable and willing to set you on the right path. Good luck and VAPE ON.

If it gets to "super high" temperature and makes smoke, then you're doing it wrong.

Vaping works like this:
- The wick "wicks" liquid so that it is wet where touching the metal coil
- The liquid is mostly "PG" and "VG" with a little bit of food flavoring in it, and a little nicotine
- The coil is one of a few metals that heat up in a known fashion when voltage is applied (kanthal, Nichrome, Stainless Steel)
- The temperatures should be NO WHERE NEAR high enough to make the metal emit fumes, or to burn the wick, especially if it is wet
- The temperature reached IS high enough to VAPORIZE the liquid. No burning, no smoke - but vapor. Similar to when boiling water emits steam (at 212 F...).

You do want to learn the relationship between the resistance of your coil, and the setting on your device, and the "airflow" of your tank, to achieve an enjoyable vape.

If it is nasty, tastes burnt - then SOMETHING IS WRONG.

Looks to me that your getting in too deep too fast and your going to maybe have some problems to iron out.
Vaping is a technique, nothing like smoking. With coils that low in ohms and inexperience your going to have a rough time trying to take a vape before you burn the cotton and coil.
No mention of the nic level of your juice. Trying to vape a higher nic juice 9-18+ nic your going to again either cough your guts out and end up with nausea and headaches and still burn the coil.
If I was you I would be worried about vaping fumes at high temperatures cause with inexperience and over powered devices with ultra low ohm coils your more headed for disaster long before your going to find success. Get yourself a more reasonable ohm coil (1.0-1.8ohm), learn how to draw off that vape, the nic level of juice you'll use and understand your device and atty.

Hello

Many thanks for all the suggestions.

My son has informed me that his friends spend a lot of money on coils every month, because they keep burning out. I hope that at low temperatures my coils last longer.

I am looking at the device now, it allows me to set the power from 7W to 80W or the temperature from 100C to 315C (200F to 600F).

I can start it at very low power and see what happens.

I do not want to smoke nicotine but rather I am intending to use it for medicinal purposes. I intend to vape a variety of substances - someone has even mentioned oregano to me. I am intending (but not tried yet) to use glycerin as a base and then add other bits in it.

Welcome and glad you joined. Purchased coils are sometimes a gamble. Suggest reading:

I can start it at very low power and see what happens.
When starting my vape at low wattage, I find that the wattage that works for me is usually a few watts over the lowest watt setting (where i can barely see the vape cloud on the exhale). Lower watt settings lessen the chance of burning the liquid and generates the best flavor.
After I get my Atty (coil and chamber heat up) going for awhile, I will often times turn the mod down or up a watt or so to see if I can taste more flavor. I'm often surprised at how much better tasting the vape can be by adjusting the vape temp/wattage.
