Batteries and a charger

I've recently picked up an Innokin iTaste SVD, 2 Effest 18350's, and a rather.... disappointing charger. In fact it doesn't charge the batteries at all, it's a generic plug 'n slide style charger and I've given up on it (It was only $7 after all). My question is though, are the batteries shot now from using it? I hear a lot of good things about Nitecore chargers, I'm thinking about purchasing the I4 and a few new batteries just in case, any suggestions?

Also, does anybody know if the SVD runs nicer on an 18350, 2 18350's, or 18xxx's? It fits almost all of them.

Thanks,
Raige

Nitecore is a fantastic charger... The best battery life for you will be a 18650. Make sure you run unprotected and safe chemistry. I use the Nitecore i2 charger (thinking of getting the nitecore d2 or d4) and it works amazingly for me. A good battery for your device will be the Panasonic 18650PF battery. It's a hybrid high drain battery that has pretty high mah rating. I use it in my VTR with no problem at all.

I'm new to PV's and MOD's, I had an ego before but it was nothing special. What exactly does 'high drain' mean, less time for it to provide full power to the mod? Also, what makes it hybrid? mah rating determines what exactly? My apologies for all of the questions, just want to make sure I'm spending my money correctly when I make a decision to make a purchase.

High drain means it is able to output more amps than typical batteries.
It uses a Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide cell instead of the traditional lithium ion making it safer to use.
The higher the mah (milliamp hours) the longer the battery can last between charges. That particular battery has a 2900 mah so it will last longer than say a AW 2000 mah 18650.

I never recommend stacking batteries. As others have said, use only IMR (high drain & safe chemistry) batteries; avoid protected ICR Li-ion batteries.

A list of IMR & IMR/hybrid batteries are here: Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?

If you want to go top of the line with chargers, the Pila and Xtar VP1 are the top choices. Middle of the road would be a Xtar WPII or a Nitecore i2 or i4. RTD Vapor is an excellent resource for batteries and chargers for mods.

Why High Drain Batteries?

Make sure you get the right type of charger for lithium 4.2volt batteries; maybe the charger you got was for NiCd batteries.

Don't stack lithium batteries unless you plan to follow stacking protocol.

High drain basically means it can deliver high power.

A hybrid system has a topper which screws more directly onto the tube instead of using a 510 threaded interface.

maH rating is a measure of the total amount of energy stored in the battery; 4 volts x mah rating gives the measure of energy in milliwatthours.

Make sure that you get batteries from a reliable source, especially if they're AW's.

Found a site where I got my 18490 batteries, I know there aren't knockoffs (fakes) because these batteries are recommended for one of the best (& most expensive) mods in the industry, ProVari. If you're looking for 18650's, here they are.

AW High Drain Rechargeable Batteries | Best 18650 Batteries

Took me only 2 business days to receive, from Washington State to North Carolina.

Here are the AW 18490's for anyone who is interested.

AW IMR Batteries: Ecigarette Batteries, ECig Batteries, Battery 18500

And here are the AW 18350's

AW IMR 18350 Batteries: Ecigarette Batteries, ECig Batteries, Battery 18500

As long as the ProVape site exists, I'll grab my AW's there, as expensive & popular as their mods are, they're not going to seal the deal with a crappy battery.

Do Not buy AW's on eBay unless you know the vendor, there are plenty of fakes in this brand.

For a charger, avoid anything that says "Fire" in the name, as surely they'll cook them. I made this mistake with my first pair of AW's, never again. Am now using an Efest LUC V2, has two independent charging slots with a digital readout & blinking charge indicator.

It's essential to purchase a multimeter. Around here. Harbor Freight Tools was giving out coupons for a Free Centech digital model, that's good enough, but if one finds one of these in a store, pay no more than $7 for it. It's important to measure your batteries as soon as they come off the charger & whenever they feel like they're running low.

If your AW's come off the charger with more than 4.25 volts, it's too much. Buy a decent charger. I have my charge rate mine set on 0.5A, there's a choice of that or 1A.

Hope this helps.
