Batteries and power - information and specs

I have a Janty KB with passthrough that includes a battery. For several months, I saw no performance difference between KB with regular KB battery, and the passthrough with battery - excellent vapor with both. The passthrough battery finally died - wouldn't hold a charge. I ordered UltraFire TR10440 3.6V batteries, but did not order the charger for them as I understand that the USB connection is supposed to keep the battery charged as you puff away. Performance with the passthrough now sucks even after leaving the USB plugged in all day (to a powered USB hub). Very weak vapor for a very short period of time. Acts as though the battery never received a full charge.

Question: Do the passthrough batteries need to be fully charged initially with a regular charger?

Note: Had the exact same experience (at the same time) with a 4072 penstyle and passthrough with battery. I think my APC battery pack crapped out and caused the original passthrough batteries to become fully discharged.

i have had my joye 510 for two weeks - been using regular batteries all the time so far -

i have a pass through and also have two extra tr 10440 batteries to try

the original batt is 360 mah and the two that i got from dealextreme are 600 mah

so they should last a bit longer - but now i wonder if the usb charger is not able to provide sufficient current for the higher capacity batteries ?

i am just now trying to charge the 600 mah batteries and will find out if they work or not - will post back later

i keep wondering why someone doesn't make a passthrough that uses regular aa or aaa rechargeable batteries ?

3 of those would be 1.25 v x 3 or 3.75 v

seems like it would be perfect

i guess if my passthrough goes out - then i will wire it up to 3 aa ' s
then i won't ever have any more battery problems since i have about 30 rechargeable aa batteries and a charger that charges 10 of them at a time

why do i have 30 aa rechargeables you ask ?
7 kids - i have saved hundreds of dollars over the last 15 years

hmmm - i thought the passthrough would work even if the battery is not in but it doesn't

so does that mean that without the battery the usb doesn't have enough current to supply the atty ?

how much current does it take for a regular battery through the atty ?

Hey guys, I'm really brand new to all of this so please don't laugh. What the heck is meant by a "manual" e-cig battery? VS I guess an automatic e-cig battery? And how does one go about choosing one or the other when buying a new e-cig, which I am at the moment trying to do? I hear people talking about using one or the other here. Is this something interchangeable for any e-cig? Will some kinks only work in some devices? Please help!

Hey Judson; A Manual e-cig battery is one that *you* activate by pressing down a button on the battery. An Auto-batt is one that is only activated when you draw in your breath on the mouthpiece.

Some prefer manuals because they can "prime" the atomizer before they take a draw. Also, some auto-batts automatically shut down after a few seconds, which is a major pooper.

I just measured the real charging current on this cheap ... Trustfire "500ma" charger, and it actually charges at 180ma. What a piece of crap. So now knowing the real charging current, in order to completely charge an 18650 2500mah battery it takes 13 hours. The ONLY good thing about that is, now I can charge overnight and not have to worry about leaving it on charge. Stay away from Trustfire chargers. If they are lying on the charger rating, then they are likely doing the same thing with the battery capacity rating.

How do you test that? I am just learning (re-learning after 20+ years, actually) how to use a multimeter. Where do you place the probes?

Oh, and while we're at it, how can I test my 801 batteries? I have tried setting the meter to DCV and touching the red probe to the post and the black one to the threads, but got nothing. I know there's some charge in it, because it lights up when I suck on the end.

Hey Cheryl, your battery is an automatic type....you won't get any reading until you can find a way to hold both probe ends on there AND get suction to activate the battery.....easy if you have 4 really small hands, but impossible for use humans.....juast looking at mine, I would use an alligator clip for the outer connection.....that frees up a hand......a regular probe for the center connector...and finally one of those bulb type suction devices they use for clearing out the sinuses of infants....Not sure what they call them ....but I referred to ours as the "suck-O-matic" when the kids were little...hope that helps

Thinking about it, I suspected that might be the case, but wasn't sure. Thanks for confirming that. I guess if my 801's and 901 were my primary vapes now, I'd put a higher priority on identifying my better and worse batteries, but until further notice, it's the Prodigy!

been 4 weeks no analogs - the 600 mah batteries work fine
i got a 901 and i like it just as much as the 510
