so i just bought a mech mod and m trying to learn all i can about my batteries and the charger and just everything in general so i dont create a wonderful nemesis styled pipe bomb. with all the wealth of information out there its quite a bit to take in all at once. so just to sort things out i should, test my batteries with a multi meter and make sure they read 4.2 volts. once they hit 3.5 its time to charge them correct? overcharging is bad and over draining them is just as bad. and never carry them in your pocket...or drop them....basically its a delicate little flower. thats about it right? i mean i think thats all i need to know. ill be creating coils at 1.5-2 ohms for safety reasons and well, i enjoy a cooler vape. this is what i bought... on a side note this charger/battery set up is safe correct? i honestly dont understand alot of this...WAY over my head

Sony US18650VTC5 2600mAh 30 amp
Xtar WP2 II - Battery Chargers

also...whats a kick? isnt it just an extra tube to make more room on your mod for battery length?

make sure you get a charger that automatically shuts off when the battery is fully charged. Make sure the battery does not get warm while it's charging. The Sony 30 amp batteries are good. They are the ones that I use. Since you are new, I would try to stay above 1 ohm if you are rebuilding. If your mech gets really warm when you are vaping, your build is probably incorrect and you probably shouldn't use that setup. Battery safety should be one of your biggest concerns with mech mods. I would suggest to watch to watch some videos on Youtube. Also the best way to learn would be for someone to help you in person. Ask a friend who has vaped for awhile, or better yet you could go to a local reliable vendor for advice.

the charger says it has a cutoff of 4.2 volts so thats whats id want right? even now with my vision spinner and evod 650mah i never leave them on the charger. it takes two hours to charge and the moment that light turns green i take it off. even my mom will leave it overnight so i take her off the charger quite a bit. i get the feeling im playing with fire here so i take every precaution i can

i dont want anything to blow up or my house to burn down..aint nobody got time for that

I always make sure I'm around when I'm charging my batteries. I check em every 15 minutes or so and once the lights turn green I take my batteries out. I for the sake of habit and safety would never have batteries in the charger left on if I went out or go to bed. Charging my batteries is not worth a house fire or something like that heh.

Most charger go up to 4.2 volts and supposedly cutoff, but trickle charge; the recommended ones are the one that actually cut off.

Battery Chargers. Get the best charger that you can reasonably afford. Statistically most battery incidents occur during the charging phase on a charger. Pila, Xtar, and Nitecore Intellicharger are the highest recommended brands.

Everything you stated is solid safe battery knowledge and practice. Those Sony batteries and Xtar charger are excellent choices.

A Kick is a drop in module which serves two purposes:

  • Turns a mechanical mod into a regulated variable wattage mod. You'll be able change the power to the coil to adjust to your taste. It will also regulate that power so there is minimal dropoff in vapor as the battery drains.

  • Provides protective circuitry just as regulated VV/VW mod does. Short circuit protection will shut down your mod to avoid a potential battery catastrophe in the case there is a short.

The Kick sits on top of your battery. Because it takes up some room in the battery compartment, it may require dropping down in battery size (18650 --> 18450/18500 battery). The Kick requires the use of a high drain battery (which your Sony batteries are).

Sounds like your off to a great start, the batteries can be discharged somewhat lower. I wouldn't go much lower than 3.2, besides your vape won't be very satisfactory at that level. 3.5 is a good number and where most ppl find there vape quality starting to greatly deminish "this depends on your what you like". As for the Kick, it is a small puck style device that goes on top of your battery inserted in the tube to allow your mechanical mod to now be variable wattage. There are a few different ones that perform a little differently but the most popular and and best quality would probly be EVOLV's kick and kick 2. These little devices also have a cut off that will spudder when your battery has reached the point it needs to be recharged. More info can be found on EVOLV's web site. There are cheaper Chinese made kicks also. Hope this helps, mechs are great and very durable and easy to maintain.

You can start that by clicking on the "Blog this Post" on the left to start your own blog for future reference.

In the exact same boat as the OP!. All my questions have been answered! AND Hey i didnt even start a new thread! But i am surprised nobody mentioned getting a 2penny fuse? I think it was Pbusardo that uses a fuse AND a kick in some of his video's?
I have both coming, fuse and kick.
Thanks for the questions, and answers.
