Not sure if this was touched on...I did check so if this is a repeat, I apologize.

Bought 2 AW IMR 18650 and a trustfire charger. They had a charge upon receipt and I used them in a VTR & SVD. Now they needed a charge and have been red for about an hour. How long should they take? Is it safe to leave them over-night?

Thanks

Hi. I do not know how long they will take to charge. I do not have 18650 batteries. But I do know that you should never leave charging batteries unattended. So do not leave them plugged in and charging overnight. This is a safety precaution for charging any batteries.

Thanks...it was more does it take this long first time charging? I took one out and it's registering 3.7 V

my 18650 panasonics take about 3 hrs to charge from 3.7V to 4.2. That is with an xtar charger. I wouldn't trust the charger you have, as i have heard they are not reliable. Go with an Xtar or nicore, or pila charger. Never leave them charging unattended, and you might want to get a charging bag or a metal tin to charge them in just to be safe.

Good luck!!! :toast:

If you are using a 2000mAh battery, charging at 500mA will take roughly 4hrs. Now it can be argued that the battery is not depleted, which is true. OTOH the charging rate is not consistent at 500mA for the entire charge cycle. If your charger has an output of 500mA, then if you are charging 2 batts, that is cut in half, unless the charger specifies 500/channel. Xtar does provide you with the capacity to vary your output between 500mA, 1 & 2A. I frequently charge my batteries overnight (not recommended) but I wouldn't do it with anything fire in its name.

I have a assortment of 18650 batteries and I leave them on the charger for days sometimes, as long as your charger can tell the difference between a dead battery and a charged battery it usually will stop actually charging the battery and just display the green light that its full. I keep mine in a visible area on my desks as its easiest to see when their are done and you can pull them off right away if you dont wan to waste electricity running the fully charged LEDs
