Battery Cleaning

I did search for prior posts on this, but didn't find much that was helpful. Has anyone successfully cleaned a battery?

Mine work, but the switches are sticking a bit.

V-V--the wheel switch in the battery is in a plastic housing that you can not get into to clean---Sucking on it, blowing into in, or wacking it really are the only ways. Sticking a paper clip up the battery hole also might help to unfeeze it by hitting on the housing--------Sun

It's a man thing. If it doesn't work, beat on it. (minds out of the gutter please.)

I read somewhere (but can't find it now) that you can clean a battery switch by dipping the end in alcohol and then (I think) gently blowing the excess out from the non-threaded end.
Has anyone tried this? I am tempted with a couple of batteries that have hard draws to activate.

This does work on many types of batteries but it can permanantly damage ones that use the diaphram type switch. You'll push it right out of its socket.
