Thanks to earlier advice I've decided to stay with vv/vw mods for now and my new Tesla has just arrived.
My question is about the batteries, it's come supplied with blue 18650 with the writing + ICR 18650 2200mAh 3.7v 14uu - on them.
Now, I have AW IMR 18650 and fake I think UltraFire BRC 18650 which I have been using in an SVD till it stopped working. Main button has stopped working. Could using different battery types have caused the problem with SVD? And which batteries are best for the Tesla? Or does it not matter?
cheers.

Ditch the no-name batteries and the Ultrafire batteries. You need to be using high drain, IMR or hybrid batteries in your mods.

Here is a post from Baditude (our resident battery/safety expert). The information below comes from this thread: Ultra Fire battery questions (for use with new innokin itaste SVD)

"It is a generalized opinion in the vaping community that "any battery with the name ***** FIRE in the name" is bad news. (Surefire, Trustfire, Ultrafire) You can do far better than these. Those 3400 mAh Ultrafires are not high drain and not safe chemistry.

It's true, you want an unprotected, safer-chemistry, high-drain, IMR or hybrid battery for your SVD. A list of acceptable batteries of this class is in the following link:

This isn't the best guide I've seen but the first one that popped up (Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR? | eBay). I didn't read the whole thing but just glossed over it. Seems to cover the basics. I'm not personally familiar with the Tesla but most of the VV/VW (not the regulated box mods) run at a max of 15 watts with a min of 3 watts. So you don't need a killer battery like a Sony VTV4/5. But I highly suggest sticking with the IMR type batteries. Most of teh VV/VW devices will have built in protection so in general (in this is my opinion) you are not going to injure yourself using a lower quality battery BUT you could kill your device. I used to use Vamo and a SVD myself (I had a twitchy power button too, kept turning itself off and the vendor claimed there was nothing wrong) and I only used IMR batteries. You can generally get them fairly inexpensive so you shouldn't have a problem tracking them down.

Where you really need to be aware of battery safety if if you go mech or high watt regulated. Then you most certainly want a safe battery, high drain, high continous amp like the Sony VTC4/5.

A rule of thumb I suggest to most vaper is that you should steer clear of any battery with "fire" in the name.

AW batteries have been my longest lasting batts. Efest gets a lot of flack, but I've run a couple of 2250mah and 2500mah efest through many cycles with good results. I think I'll return to AW for my next purchases, though. I have 4 that have been in rotation for over two years and still perform admirably. The AW price difference isn't enough to make me look elsewhere.

You only want to use IMR batteries in your mods, whether they are mechanical or regulated VV/VW.

The statement from the supplier is a perfect example of someone who doesn't know much about batteries. He sells you a mod and throws in some cheap no-name generic batteries for free. Those are unknown batteries made by an unknown manufacturer of unknown quality. Now tell me how safe is that?

Generic batteries are either:

  • The rewrapped rejects of battery manufacturers who don't want to sell them under their own label because they don't meet the minimum standards of the company.

  • Rewrapped used batteries harvested from old laptop computers.

He sounds like a disreputable vendor to me and is pulling a fast one on you, or he is uneducated in current battery technology. Current wisdom is to use only IMR batteries in all mods, whether they are mechanical or regulated. Our forum administrator, Rolygate, is a battery expert and also recommends using only IMR batteries:

Rechargeable Batteries

ICR (protected Li-ion) batteries are obsolete for use in mods. Their low amp limit will prevent a regulated mod's processor and pulse circuitry from performing optimally. Why High Drain Batteries?

It's your choice what type of battery to use. It seems quite obvious to me what the wiser choice is.

I would recommend genuine sony vtc5 30 amp batteries. But make sure they are genuine. A good supplier won't mind sending a certificate of authenticity on the batteries. Also there are several articles on google on how to spot a Fake Sony vtc5 with pictures. If im remembering correctly the fakes will have a raised negative on some, also the fakes will have a poorly blended seam and the bar code of the fakes is darker. It's kinda hard to see but there are slight differences. Make sure the seller is saying authentic batteries or have a authenticity certificate. Because the fakes won't run as well as the genuine ones.you will pay a little more but it's worth it for good batteries
