battery disposal -- recycle??

I hear people saying to recycle their ecig batteries. I have several aw 18350s to dispose of and of course prefer to recycle or dispose of properly. The battery collection at the local waste hauler facility is a barrel that, according to the crew there, gets sealed when full and burried in the landfill. is that what folks mean by recycling or is there an actual way to have the batteries recycled so that some of the nasty chemicals are reused or something happens that's environmentally preferable to landfilling? thanks

I have seen boxes at schools and best buys where they recycle all sorts of electronics and you could probably but them there. Also, maybe at a NAPA or other auto parts store, they recycle car batteries.

I haven't had to recycle any yet but that's where I plan on going when the day comes.
