I just save them up and throw them over the border into Canada whenever I'm near there.

And I throw them back in the Mississippi river

But I don't actually have to be in Canada. ;)

And I definitely don't need to be anywhere near the border... Anyone in or near St. Louis complaining about lithium batteries in the river can take it to cloud minder (it's pretty much a straight drive) :D

Most, if not all hardware stores over here take used batteries.

Yeah, I hate those lightbulbs, and I'm hoping that the change-over in congress will mean a repeal of that stupidity about no more incandescents. Andria

If not, the Congress after that will tell you to get rid of both kinds and replace them with LED's. Guess it just depends which billionaire owns the most politicians at the time.

LED bulb prices have been going down. I replaced most of my bulbs and just love it. I also added a dimmer for the kitchen lights and it's better than ever. I never went for CFL's as I knew how bad they were. Now I have a bin full of incandescent bulbs that will one day be left for the next tenant (ain't gonna leave my precious LED bulbs behind :pervy:)

Have you no understanding of what is sacred? Just for that, I will head up your way, and toss a boatload into the St. Lawrence.

Tell Cloud Minder... he's the one throwing them over here and we want none of other people's crap. We even pay other countries to take our junk, just like you guys!

But I don't actually have to be in Canada. ;)

I know, but capital crime, man... we have solid extradition treaties with Canada; they'd send the Mounties and come getcha! eh? ;)

Andria

PS: I hope all the Canadian readers understand that I am joking around. All the Canadians I've met were lovely people, and if they'd stop harassing vapers, I'd go back to my fantasy about emigrating to Canada to get away from the idiots in American gov't.

I just wonder, is recycling batteries like tin cans (environmentally a good thing) or like all other recycling (bad for the environment) ?
Does anyone actually know or are we doing this because some idiot in an office thought it sounded good?

I'm not sure what you mean by that.

They'll extradite you, bring you to court and give you a standard fine and send you home with a stern look. It is possible they might not let you back in the country just because the US has been doing it in some cases.

Canada is a lot like the US on vaping laws (and many other aspects). Some provinces are trying to ban it in public, some are trying to ban nicotine liquids and over here it's still all good, but they do plan on banning vaping in public, but things take longer in french since the words contain more vowels ;)

Recycling batteries is even better than recycling tin cans... the chemicals and acids contained in batteries are much worse for the environment than just aluminum. I don't get what kind of recycling is bad for the environment... some companies cheat, but real recycling is just a good thing.

ROFLMAO!!!!

I do have periodic fantasies about fleeing this den of insanity, and the only reasonable place I can think of is Canada; they speak English there, and it's a hell of a lot closer than Australia. And I like snow. :D I could probably learn Spanish, took it in high school and it's not a difficult language at all, and I'd have to say that the Mexican people I've met have also been very nice, but I just can't get with the Montezuma's Revenge down there. Also there are apparently NEGATIVE jobs down there, since half of them wanna come up here to work.

Are you serious? SF libraries take recycles?

I live in the 'burbs but yeah, the library near my house does. One time I went to the bank and had a bag of spent alkalines on me that I was going to drop off afterwards but the teller offered to recycle them in their bin for me.

No one wants people throwing batteries into landfills these days.

PS. +1 on your sig

Sigh. I need to move back to the west coast, or to another country.
Libraries make sense or the post office for that matter, if they want to make themselves useful and justify their continued existence.
I really think the sellers of products should be responsible, but they are about their bottom line and you can't trust them.
Thanks on the PS;)

It just occurred to me, there's a store nearby, and I know it's a chain because they have another shop a few miles north of here, which specializes in batteries of all sorts -- Batteries Plus is the name of the store. I'm wondering if they do battery recycling.

We were in there recently to get a new battery for our home phone, and I inquired about e-cig batteries; the guy seemed fairly knowledgable about batteries, and said they were going to start carrying them, in a pkg with a charger. He mentioned lithium-ion batteries, and I told him they should be IMR, lithium-manganese, because they're much safer batteries which is very important for something held that close to the face -- he said he'd be sure to speak to the mgr about that. Dunno if he will or even if the mgr has any say-so in the matter, but I tried to do my bit for safer vaping.

No recycled tin cans are easier to produce than from ore so they are good for the environment, nothing to do with land fills etc. Recycling other things though is a bad thing, take paper for example. You collect it in a different truck which runs on magic fairy power you then use another magic fairy powder to bleach it before you mulch it and process it back to paper, it produces more waste and uses more power which is more pollution and that's not even counting all the extra miles you had to move the paper to get it to a recycling centre. Want to save the environment? Don't recycle anything apart from cans.

As to batteries the chemicals and acids would be contained in a landfill so don't see what the issue is, but I don't know what they do with them when they properly dispose of them so I can't say if it's good or bad.
