Battery drain from fused claptons? Am I pushing the batteries too much?

I am using an RX200S with 3x LG HG2 batteries. (20a/3000mh)
2x26ga NI80 core/36ga kanthal wrap. 6wraps around 7/64 bit. Dual coils ohm out to about .19
According to steam-engine, 68watts at that resistance should be pulling right at 20amp. So i am trying it at 65watt so I have some headroom, and its not any better than a dual spaced coil for me.

Do I really need to get some 25amp batteries to make the fused claptons shine? Is it really bad to run them so close to their amp limit of 20 for a long time?

there shouldn't be any issues "making your build shine" with the rx200 which is a 3 battery mod in series.

IMO every build has a certain sweetspot that is different for everyone. After that sweetspot, every increase in power suffers from diminishing returns for battery longetivity.

As for claptons vs single strand wires, I find them to be somewhat similar in terms of flavor. Maybe more clouds but def a bigger drain on your batteries due to more power needed.

On a regulated mod resistance doesn't matter, as long as it's within the operating limits of the mod. The power is spread over all three cells so at full charge (4.2v) and allowing for mod inefficiency each cell will be handling 6 amps, discharged at 3.2v the load will be 8 amps.

You might find this useful for working out the current drain:-

Calculating battery current draw for a regulated mod | E-Cigarette Forum

I generally allow 50W per battery with 20A CDR batteries to give me some margin for error.

You should really keep the batteries that you are using as a set and charge and discharge them as a set. I mark mine up with the date I purchased them so that I have an idea of how many cycles they have been through.

In terms of making your build shine, general rule of thumb is to start at a low wattage and work upwards slowly until you get the flavour/production that you want.

I've been vaping for over four years. I've been building my own coils for over three years. I worked in a busy vape shop for a year. I use the same device that you do, an RX200 with HG2 batteries, simple dual coils 0.6 ohm in an RDA. I get a little longer than 2 days with my set of batteries, but I'm a chain vaper.

If there is one thing that I learned early on is the K.I.S.S. principle. (Keep It Simple, Stupid)

I worked with "master coil builders" at the vape shop. Every day they would build a new coil for their personal setup. Exotic stuff they saw on You Tube. I vaped on their builds. I wasn't that impressed. For all the time they invested in making their complicated coils, their devices didn't taste any better than my simple compressed coils. Perhaps theirs made more vapor, but I wasn't into that aspect of vaping.

Build your fancy coils if that is what makes you happy. For me, I don't particularly get a lot of pleasure making coils. I make them because its more economical and gives me a more satisfying vape than buying factory-made coils.

I second Bad Ninja's suggestion of building a simpler coil with less mass if you are concerned about battery drain.

Or go with a single coil rta. I'm buying pre made alien wire and using them in a single coil setup with the Merlin. 0.4 and 0.5 builds and 30-35W gives me a very pleasurable and flavorful Vape. They're both on a single 18650 device (dna75 and sx350jv2) and usually the last me almost a day of chain vaping.

Thanks for the answers guys.

I wasn't so much concerned about battery life, but more about exceeding the draw. I was under the assumption that with the 3 batteries, I was still locked into that 20a limit, not knowing it was spread evenly over all 3 batteries. Suddenly it makes sense

As far as the coil builds. I wanted to try a fused Clapton just to say I did it and give my new nichrome a shot. The time it took to build with certain expectations and actual performance, I was kind of let down. I am going to rebuild tonite with my go to dual parallel.
