I know we're supposed to charge the batteries initially for 8 hours the first time, even if the indicator shows it fully charged. What can happen if we fail to do this? Will it completely ruin the battery?
My guess (know what bit I do about Lithium Ion batteries) is that it will never hold a truly full charge. That's what happened to a cell phone I once owned.

This has been discussed at great length with the explanations given and myths put to the sword. Please do a search for lithium and read the posts.

The 8 or 12 hour initial charge is from NiMh and NiCd days. Lithium doesnt require a training charge or full charge /drain/charge cycles. Lithium has no-memory effect.
Like Keef says : green = go, the battery isn't gonna charge anymore.
Just make sure it's fully charged. Look at the green light for 10 seconds. If it doesn't blink red once and remains solid green, then you are good to go.
Well, the new charger I have (a replacement) never goes red, but it does charge the batteries. I should have another one on the way, from company HQ, not my distributor. But at this point I'm not complaining, as long as it works!
I was wondering about the 8 hour charge thing as well. Im looking at the charger now and its doing weird things. the light is green but it has an extremely brief red flash then the light goes dim green then the LED tip on the battery flashes 10 times. Its a brand new battery just came in the mail from TW. What do you guys think? Would it matter that im charging an RN4075 battery with the charger that came with my DSE901? I figured they were the same.

that sounds more like the battery is DOA... i had a battery do that already... even though the charger was green upon use the battery led would work for about one or two puffs, then flash red like it was dead.. strange thing is a voltage test when it did work in those one or two puffs, showed a correct voltage of about 4.3 volts... so it isnt dead.. probably something wrong with the switch or some other component inside... remember these are built in china.... and unless you like being unemployed, dont become a quality control officer in china
