You can use either, but the 18500 is a smidge longer. If you use the 18490, you should be good to go. :) Besides, the 18500 is the protected litium ion battery....the 18490 is the IMR.
Thanks for the help but sometimes I'm a little thick. Are you suggesting I get the 18490 so that I can use with the vape safe? Or the 18500 because it is "protected". "Oh, what to do, what to do....."

Can someone tell me which battery goes in a mini 2.1. On Rob's website is says "AW imr 18490-18500". Is it either or - or is it....I dunno. I hope to have room for a vape safe 2 cent.

Either will work. The 18490 should be 1mm shorter. Might be better if using the fuse.

:) I'm saying with the fuse, use the 18490 to ensure a good fit.

get the AW IMR 18490 3.7v 1100mAh its what i use with the fuse plus its better for low res atty

They are out of that one. I'll get some later when they are in stock. In the mean time, I got the 18500. Will the 18500's be ok for 1.0 ohm coils? They are 1500mAh.

On the RTDvapor website, they show an "AW protected 18500 1500mAh 3.7v" and they also have "AW IMR 18490 3.7v 1100mAh". But they don't have physical size specs for them. Thanks for all the help fellow reonauts! Ya'll are just a passel of sweet peaches. :)

There are two 18500 labeled batteries offered by AW, one is the protected 1500mah & the other is the 1400mah unprotected battery, both are Li-Co (Li-Ion). The unprotected AW 18500 1400mah battery is not popular & you probably won't find a vape vendor selling them as it's not as safe to use for vaping. You can use the AW 18500 1500mah protected battery but they're not designed for continuous high drain. T the protection cell will trip at 5A so as long as you aren't vaping SLR it will be fine.

IMRs are cheap & have high discharge rates. Plus they are safe(r) LiMn chemisty meaning they won't explode on you like an unprotected Li-Co can. Plus the AW brand is well proven, been using them since mid 2000 in high powered flashlights when they came out. Back then AW was the only brand to go with & is still what I use today.

I usually buy my IMRs from RTD now too. Avid Vapor has them but they cost slightly more. There are plenty of flashlight vendors that carry them too, LightHound is where I used to buy them or directly from AW. FYI for price comparison while shopping, IMR 18490 is $8.50 ea directly from AW not including shipping from Honk Kong.

With the AW 18500 protected Li-Ion it will fire with a 1 ohm coil & shouldn't trip the protection circuit.

You really don't need the fuse, the spring is designed to collapse if there is a short. With a fuse installed the spring is compressed too much to collapse. I've got both AW batts, I prefer the red IMR's. They will do higher discharge rates and have the safer chemistry. If you're on a tight budget the eFest IMRs are really good for the price.
