Battery Issue with Vapor Flask/ Dna 40

I am a long time reader first time poster. I have always been able to find what I need by searching so forgive me for posting this in the New members forum.

I recently decided to jump on the dna 40 bandwagon and have been having some issues. I purchased a Vapor Flask v2.1 and love it in voltage mode but have been having nothing but issues in TC mode. after about 20 attempts at building nickel coils I finally got two setups to work decently. the first is on my Mutation x V2 this one is a dual coil build with twisted nickel and kanthal 30g at .13 ohms. the second is on a Plume Vail clone v1 dual coil build with twiasted nickel and kanthal 30g at .22 ohms. I have 4 matching sets. 2 are Sony vtc4 the other set is LG HE2. I keep reading about people get a full day if not more out of there batteries and I cant get more then 2-3 hours out of mine. What am I doing wrong?

so forgive me for posting this in the New members forum.

Not a problem. Since you're new to the forum this is the only place you CAN post at the moment, so it's perfectly all right ;) I have, however, moved it out to the general New Members area from the Simple Solutions forum. Simple Solutions is for the "absolute beginner" type stuff and advanced topics (RBAs, high-power APVs, sub-ohm vaping, etc) don't belong there

Since nickel builds and DNA40 mods are fairly popular right now I'm sure you'll get a few possible answers in here. You might also be able to find more answers in these other sub-forums (and once you've got your post count up a bit, will be able to join in the discussions there):
Coil Builds
Sub-Ohm
Variable Voltage APV Discussion

I'm not fortunate enough to own a DNA40 device at this time, so can't offer any help, myself. I hope you receive the answers to your questions. Welcome to ECF! :)

Agreed, people are doing it but Brandon (Evolv) recommends not using twisted Kanthal/NI200 in TP. There is a video posted somewhere on the site and if I find it I will come back and post a link. It's over an hour long and I don't remember how far into the video they discussed kanthal/Ni200 twist. I run twisted 30ga Ni200 with good success and my batteries (vtc4's) last a least a day if not more and I hit it pretty hard.

Are your sets new?

3 sets are brand new. the other set is about 2 months old but always used as a pair in my sigelei 100w +. if you do find the video i would love to see it. i only started the combo twist because I was having issues making a good stable coil with only ni200. I was running into the same issue with just ni200 builds also thou.

I believe this is the one where they talk about the twisted. Sorry It's long and Brandon mentions the twisted Ni200/Kanthal but I don't know where in the video.

I was having the same (or a similar) problem with my Vapor flask DNA40. I contacted VF and also my vendor. They both said it sounds likely to be a board problem. Vapor Flask emailed me back within the hour and my vendor offered to replace for free.

(If you get a chance visit VapinArt in Miami, do so. They're the best!)

One of the times I got a low battery warning. I pulled the batteries and metered them. Both batteries were ~4.1v.

Anyway, VF contact info: info@vaporflask.com

VF sent me a googleDocs form to fill out for repair.

good luck

Another possibility in some cases is that the Sony batteries are practically the only ones that will fit and the most common ones folks use in the VF, and these are by far the most counterfeited batteries there are, in fact the counterfeits are far more prevalent that the genuine ones. So fake Sony batteries that look genuine could be the issue in some poor battery performance or battery life situations.

Sony authentic VTC4's fit and can be found reasonably at illumination supply as well as the Lg's for $6.50 a pop, both fit the flask.

There are good choices available for the flask. It's best to buy them and use them in pairs of equal age and power. Older pairs shouldn't be used if they are not a good match.

Cavenerd you got a flask too, eh? I am having a similar problem but it doesn't matter if I use a nickel build or a kanthal build, my battery indicator and battery life is all wrong. Basically, I put brand new Sony VTC-4s in my flask right off the nitecore charger and the battery indicator says its all full…take a vape and down it goes to half way. Then it moves around randomly all day but the batteries DO have juice and the performance is fine 11-13 Watts. Put on a dripper and it won't push past 26W. I meter the batteries and they are 4.1+ Not good. Even more strange, if I plug in the USB charger the indicator light is green saying full charge but the battery indicator says only half way once you depress the fire button…buggy

Also got mine from Vapinart, they are the best place on the web to find the hard to find stuff that no one has in stock, love that company.

The flask was fine for the first 2 weeks or so, battery indicator was topped up all day and working as it should, then once I put a nickel build on there the problem began. I also have to run the temp at 500 to get literally the same vape that I get set at 430 on my other DNA 40 with the same atty and build, so the chip in the flask is wonky.

I contacted Vaporflask too and they also sent me a google docs RMA form and said to ship to back and they would replace the chip. They said the battery issue is known in some chips but the temp reg problem I have is not a known issue. It sucks because I absolutely love this mod and it's obvious that Evolv rushed the chip out and didn't get the bugs worked out. At least vaporflask has great customer service. I feel bad for the companies that have to deal with costs of replacing chips. That's not cool.

I use my DNA 30 devices all day and I know when the battery indicator starts to go down from full at all it's time to recharge. When the DNA 40 works properly, that should be the same, and 2 18650s should give you all day if you are in the 11-17W band with a tank. Dripping 2 hours tops.

That being said the flask is the best mod I have owned. I love it and once it's fixed it's the one for me

RG-
it's a shame about the rushed evolved chips, especially in a mod as comfortable as the VF. I never had the temp regulation problem but I rarely used the function. I wonder if I might have had the same issue but never knew about it.

Having a new problem with the new VF. This time, no battery issues but my red charge light stays on as long as there are batteries is the mod. I'm sure something's gone screwy but so far the performance hasn't been affected. It's a nuisance more than anything else. I'm waiting on VF to contact me about the complaint but it's going on a week and heard nothing back from them yet.

Sadly, if they ever do contact me and replace/repair it I'll probably ust end up getting rid of it on the classies so I can add something more reliable to my line-up until they get all the bugs figured out. It's a shame. I really like how the mod feels in my hand.

Hope you have success after your repair.

Cheers. Keep on Vapin!

It's a shame that there is little, to poor quality control for the Vapor Flask. The manufacture has had plenty of feedback and time to correct the ground issue, and the DNA 40 chip; yet, I just received my new Vapor Flask less than a week ago, and it has the same issue that several previous owners have had. I find it hard to believe that a premium mod such as the flask, is being pumped into the market while the manufacture continues to ignoring it's obvious defects. How hard can it be to conduct proper quality control checks on every unit produced? At the price we consumers are paying for these mods we deserve, and should demand a properly functioning unit. We as consumers, should not have to be their quality control source, and then be forced to send back their faulty products, period!!! I will be weary before I ever purchase another product from Vapor Flask again.

I'm having the same problem. >:/
I'm glad to know I'm not alone on this, and that they have good customer service.
In addition to the battery indicator issues, mine also drops in and out of TC when I'm NOT using Ni200 wire.

I swear I have the worst luck. My BF and I each ordered our VFs together. His is working great! Not a single issue. Mine? Complete crap. Lol

Guess I'll be contacting evolv as well. Sigh....

I just ran a little test and it seems unprotected IMR cells treat the DNA40s a lot better than protected cells do. My INR 2000 mah batteries would have the DNA 40 bouncing back and forth from TC to regular wattage power application when the cells were getting weak. HE2s weren't quite as bad but did have an occasional hobble. I did the test with 2 unprotected 17650 at 1200 mah Efests and they ran down smoothly unlike the protected cells I've tried.
Sorry this may not do much for the ground issues with the VFs but may help some.

@ charbanger: I agree 100%

bought it about a month ago, 1st issue the red light is on all the time and burning smell from USB charger, since yesterday, fully charged batteries >4.1 when tested LG HE2s when put in VF, kayfun4 1.0 Ohm build at 13 watts dropping to half after 3 puffs. I drained another set to empty in 15 min and when put back on chrger they were fully charged in 40 min.

I have it replaced once and will have to do it again ... Products from China work better, until now I am not having great luck with Temp comtrol except a 28Gni200 coil i build in subtank, I can get 5-6 istick 50 w instead of this one....

I hope all the problems are solved and they do some proper quality control,
