note: I haven't approached V4L with this yet. I wanted to get the forum.wisdom input first...

I pulled an XL auto off the charger today that had been working fine. When I put a carto on it, I get a couple good draws, then the cartridge starts to heat up. Even without the LED illuminating it keeps heating. Then the top of the battery started to get warm - I'm not sure if it's just heat transference from the carto or if the battery is going into a shorted condition. I tried with two cartos - but they were both from a new unknown batch.

I was out and about and didn't have the opportunity to really document it well, and a Li* battery cooking off in my purse makes me nervous, so I just pulled the carto off, rolled some etape around it and did without for the evening. But given this description - Is there something I need to do to remedy this? Is there a known issue that I need to contact v4l about? Is this a common thing to be aware of? Did I break my new toy? [waaaa!]

When I get home in a bit, I'll try to reproduce and document the states, and try those cartos on additional batteries...

[edit: Yes - before you ask - I do have a couple rolls of electrical tape in my purse. Get over it. :p ;)]

Actually - it won't charge either. This is just a bad battery I'm afraid...

zdaddyl - as an electrical engineer, I'm always finding myself reaching for e-tape. I used to keep it rolled around my knife, but eventually gave up and started carrying a roll. Which meandered off too frequently - so now there's two. ;)

Man this is wierd. i was just going to check out my batttery cause it was doing the same thing but it wasnt a XL. ok im driving to my sons house and i am vaping some liquid using a greencig battery which is the same size as a V4L shorty. It started getting warm but i thought cause i was vaping very heavy. then it started getting warmer then actually hot. Now i cant even touch it. so i unscrewed it til it got cool and screwed it on again. same thing warm, warmer then hot. This time i heard a crackle sound very low. Does anyone know why this happenned. I havent had a problem with this battery at all. i have lots of batteries VK batts and greencig batteries and this is a first for me. I use both VK cartos and greencig cartos but this time i was using a VK cart on the greencig battery. Help whats going on?

OK i was just checking it again. The battery is completely dead. so i put the batt on the charger. now is charging. i will just charge it for a bit then screw a cart on it and see what happens. i looked at the kr808 carto and the wrapping on the carto was melted in a little spot. so i opened it up and looked inside the carto and seen burn marks. so i took the carto apart. the filler was burnt the wick was burnt and holes and tears in the filler. the wires on the atty was frayed. so is this what the hear did to the cart? Now im thinking it was just a bad cart. I dont know. or is the battery bad. I put another charged up greencig battery on that same carto and it wouldnt work at all. no vapor no nothing so i quickly disconnected the new gc battery. took out another cart and screwed that new gc battery on that cart and it worked great. so now im just waiting for my original gc battery to charge a bit and then screw another cxart on it. if it gets hot then i guess it is the battery. if it doesnt get hot then it was just a bad cart. does this kind of thing happen to carts? is it poossible that they are defective. if its my battery i know greencig, com will replace it thats noi problem but i hope it was just a bad cart. anybody have an idea.

Wow. Way to unearth Adrenalynn's Early Works (and poor SingingWolf! This post dates back to like the start of December - 2+ months)

That was the first auto switch I autopsied. Typical story - broken diaphragm leads to non returning switch. It's one of three or four failure-states the battery can get into (in autos)

You can try. Alas - those posts didn't exist prior to that. And I was the first to post the reason behind the failures of that new design. Because it didn't exist prior to that.

Now, see, searching the forum turned this up. So why create a thread about it? It's already been answered now. And a thousand times hence.

You know, this whole concept might just be too subtle for you to grasp. Unfortunate, but that is probably the underlying factor here.

Auto batts are often sound activated. I had the same thing happen w/ my 510. Batt died real quick while I was on the road.
