Did you charge them before you started using them? You didn't specify which battery, but most of them look like eGo-style batteries. With that, 5 fairly quick clicks to turn on or off. Don't worry about asking - we're here to help where we can

Also, can't rule out a bad batch of batteries. If you can't fix them, contact the vendor and see if they will work with you. Good luck.
