Battery Question

So my batteries have been working fine ever since I got them but now something has happened that I dont understand. I have a trustfire charger (not the best I know) and some trust fire batteries. Right now in my provari I have a trust fire 18500 and it works fine. With the extender cap I stack two 18350s. These batteries started to die so I put them on the charger as I usually do. I noticed the charger was getting hot by the main connection but the whole unit wasnt hot. While the two 18350s were charging, I also noticed they were getting a bit warm as well. When I put my nose very close to the batteries, I noticed a slight plasticy smell, it wasnt very noticeable until I put my nose close to it but it was there. On top of all of this, the charger would charge for about ten minutes then short out. This has never happened to me before so I am unsure of the problem. I took the batteries from the charger and unplugged the charger. The batteries are not melted in any way and seem fine but I am worried what is going on. HELP

Best thing would be to check the batteries voltage with a multi-meter, NOT inside a mod. The last thing you want to do with a possibly bad battery is put it inside a metal tube!!! If the batteries are overcharged, they could be very dangerous, put them OUTSIDE, away from anything flamable, be sure they cool completely. I wouldn't use them without checking them with a meter, if you don't have a meter you can get one for about $10.

As a general rule batteries with "fire" in the name are the low end products. Don't cheap out on the cost of batteries or the charger, get them from a reputable vendor. What you may spend on batteries is far cheaper than burning down your house, or blowing 1/2 your face off.

I was actually wrong about the type of batteries. They are efest imr batteries 800 mah 18350s. They are cooled down now and seem fine. The smell I was smelling seems to just be the coating on the battery because even cool to the touch the plastic coating smells like that so maybe it is because they were just getting warm. When I took them out to charge they were reading 3.8 in my provari

Efest have a much better reputation....but you still should buy a meter...:) and a high quality charger.
The batteries shouldn't be getting warm enough to offgas smells while charging, normally.

p.s. stacking Li-ion batteries are never a good idea as they won't discharge uniformly, which can cause problems charging. Also stacked batteries need to be a matched set, the same age and condition, charged as a pair and rotated in position when in use, that is for battery A & B, A goes in first to the mod, after use and recharge B goes in first for the next use.

Question? Are there *any* APVs that actually allow or suggest battery stacking? Other than some weird mechanical mod perhaps?

I know the Vamo does. It's the only way to achieve maximum power with it. The Zmax might also, but I'm not sure.

It would seem to me that if most all do *not* allow/suggest battery stacking, could it be a risk, even with a unit that does allow/suggest it?

Battery stacking is pretty much a way of the past like the dinosaurs and should remain there. The fact that the Chinese made device e.g the Vamo, VMax and ZMax that can take 2 x 18350s does not make it right.

This problem was further exacerbated by some idiots promoting MORE POWER! It is beyond me that anyone would enjoy a device that overshoots the setting by 0.75 - 1V. I come from the era that you use to do the math in your head wrt matching atomisers to voltage setting etc...

Stacking batteries was a way to achieve 6V (not in use much these days) or to achieve 5V through a regulator. One needs to remember back when I started vaping the 2.2Ohm 510 had just hit the streets. A normal atty was 3 - 3.2. Therefore the 510 atty was in fact a LR atty for the time.

With the advent of VV and VW there is no reason to stack batteries. If you are not getting any satisfaction then I suggest upping your nic :) I vape a 70/30 mix of 6mg @ 7-8W and find all the satisfaction I need. Then again I am never in a competition of who produces the greatest cloud :)

Wrt battery brands. One needs to remember or be informed that when mods came out, pretty much all one could get was ***fire series batteries (many unprotected). Vaping innovations have made these batteries pretty much obsolete.
