There is an inherent risk with any storage device! Is the battery in your car going to blow up? I doubt it, but I've seen it. Is the propane tank on your BBQ grill going to blow up? I doubt it, but I've heard of it. Is the gas tank on your car going to blow up if you have a wreck? I doubt it, but the potential is there.
These batteries aren't "set and forget it", you need to have some car when using them. If you are willing to do that, great, you most likely wont have a problem. People just need to be attentive to them, that's the root of most problems.

Don't leave your batteries plugged in after they've charged. Get a bag, it will relieve your mind and it's a smart move anyway - make sure it's a quality bag not some cheap old tack that won't cut the mustard if something were to happen. Don't buy off-brand or unprotected batteries. Don't tamper with or try to modify your batteries. Don't have raw batteries (18650's/14500's et al) banging against each other in your pocket or bag. On the plus side, exploding batteries are as likely to occur in your laptop or cell phone, so try not to get overly freaked out about them.

The Xtar and Pila battery chargers are the top two available to us vapors. You can't do better.

You also can't go wrong with the AW brand, many mod manufacturers require their use or the warranty is voided, that is how dependable and safe they are.

You can get a battery charging bag if it will help you sleep at night.

I would recommend that you get a simple volt meter like this 510 Voltage Indicator Rev 2 to check your battery's voltage coming off the charger and when you remove it from your device. A freshly charged battery should read 4.1-4.2v, no higher. A drained battery should read 3.4v, no lower. You can also check your vaping attachments ohm rating for accuracy "under load" by putting it on one end of the meter and the other connected to your device as shown in the picture.

Batteries can feel warm coming off the charger, but should never feel hot. Remove batteries from a charger as soon as they have finished. Check the skin insulation on your batteries from time to time to check for tearing or missing skin. Make certain that both ends of the battery and the battery contacts in your device are clean of corrosion or dirt, clean with alcohol if need be.

If your device's power switch protrudes, disable it from firing to prevent accidental firing such as in a pocket or purse. Do not allow loose batteries come into contact with metal, such as loose change or keys, in a pocket or purse. Buy plastic battery cases to store or carry spare batteries. Battery case

Use common sense with batteries and you should be fine and safe.

My friend got what was supposed to be an ego-t 1000vlt battery. but we had ego-ts and his looked like it was obviously not like ours. It didn't have any words on it, nothing, and where his button was when he pressed it the 5 times to "turn it off" it glowed purple not blue/white which ours did. One day while charging it (about 2 weeks after he had it) he was cooking smelled something burning and the thing was in the wall plug above his deep freezer, and was burning the paint off the top of his deep freezer. he went to grab it but felt the heat then all of a sudden his button popped and the plastic from it ran down the battery. He had to use an oven mit to get the charger out of the wall and carried the thing outside, He sat it on the ground and it was SO hot that dirt started sticking to the thing. It was fried, his charger was fried and he went back to smoking cigarettes that day... (this was after begging him 4 months after we quit for him to quit). I couldn't really convince him it was a fluke, and he just kept saying what if i'd been asleep?.. i understand his place, but things like that shouldn't be the reason to turn people from e-smoking. If the manufactuers would get their .... together we wouldn't have half the problems we do.
even though we never have had an issue with our batteries, because of that we NEVER charge a battery at night.

A dumb question. Is it ok to partially discharge/charge these things? I don't want to leave them charging while I sleep and I've read that they can take hours to charge.

Hii EternalNoob
I do that alot and don't think it does any harm. If my memory is correct, i think i read its ok.

has anyone tried the trustfire batts? it's protected apparently but is it safe? how safe is protected?

They're Ok, just a bit lower down the pay grade is all.
The irony is that AW does not make batteries. What they do is grade batteries. The best cells get the AW lable ... the rest end up in electric shavers.

This is a picture of one of my "protected" Trustfire batteries.

Edit: Needless to say, I no longer trust any battery with the name trust in it. :p
