First off, I'm using the IPV Mini and the Efest Purple IMR 18650 2500 MaH Flat top 35A battery. I understand it only puts out 20A. Anyway, from watching reviewers on YouTube, they've made me treat batteries like they are bombs. They have me so damn paranoid about batteries that I almost don't wanna use them anymore. My questions are:
1) in the regulated mods they obviously have protection under charging/over charging/reverse battery protection...etc.??
2) before a battery just explodes wouldn't it get warm?
3) has anyone had one that actually exploded or caught fire while they were using it?

Any help on this matter to maybe feel a little less paranoid would help. I don't even charge these batteries in a room where I am at.

Chipotle.
You've got no need to worry really, the battery cell that is under that wrapper is an LG HE2 which in short bursts can output 35A reliably. I have personally used the LG HE2 in mechanical mods built to .12 ohms daily for months with ZERO issues. You're being overly paranoid in my eyes, though I should mention that I am professionally trained to work on much much higher voltage/amperage electronics so a small 18650 cell doesn't worry me at all. 100% of my vaping is done with 18650 mechanical mods built below 0.20 ohms and of the 20+ 18650 batteries I own I have never had one instance of anything remotely close to a fire or explosion happen with any of them(I use Samsung 25R, VTC4, VTC5 and LG HE2) and I change batteries probably 5-6 times a day in multiple devices. Still, no issues in a Year+ vaping.

For the setup you plan to use, as long as you buy quality batteries from a KNOWN source and use a quality charger you should not ever have any issues. Inspect your batteries often to make sure there are no tears in the outside wrapper and that there are no dents and it is in overall normal good condition before use.

Thank you very much, I feel like I'm being over paranoid as well...but I guess that's good because I'm extra careful. I bought my batteries from MVS and use the SODA Efest battery charger. I also make sure my batteries are always fully charged when storing them. I have 3 purple efest that I rotate out. I know the IPV Mini has a low voltage protection, but I still don't drain them until the device quits. As soon as the battery indicator is at about half I swap them out. I don't know if this may shorten the life of the batteries or not, but I just don't want my device exploding in my face. (Although, I believe it would overheat before that happened)

Using a regulated mod with protection circuits should make it much safer, but even electronic circuits can fail. You don't need to fear the batteries, just treat them with respect. Check the coverings, check for mechanical abuse, dents, check the voltage before and after charging, and always use high quality, high drain batteries.

Charging them when only half drained won't shorten their life, the norm is 300 - 500 full charge cycles. So if you charge 1/2 way, you should get about twice as many cycles, 600 1/2 cycles vs. 300 full cycles.

Charging when 1/2 depleted is like filling the gas tank in your car when it hits 1/2 a tank, won't effect the gas mileage or engine life.

1) most regulated mods will have some protections built-in, yes. As stated, these circuits can fail, but it is not a common occurrence
2) yes, it'll get quite warm before anything else. A hot battery is a good indication that something is wrong and will usually be noticeable while there's still time to correct the situation
3) not recently. In the past it has happened, but the high drain batteries common in the vaping world nowadays are not nearly as volatile as some of the older chemistries that we used to use. In the unlikely event that something is about to go terribly wrong, you're likely going to notice the heat from the battery in plenty of time to address the problem

I think Stosh said it best in his above post :)
