Battery stacking - Safe, or not?

Hey everyone,
I have been looking into tube mods and have seen & read about replacing a battery of of one voltage with two batteries "stacked" to create a higher voltage.

Is this safe? Is it a regular practice for bumping up voltage on a non vv tube mod, or is it something that is done, but not recommended?

Welcome to ECF . The manufacturer's all recommend against it , but a lot of people do it all the time , myself included . Just make sure your using the good " protected " batteries, not the cheapo's from China . It's very rare to have any problems from this practice , but use your own discretion on this .

Unprotected batteries can be alright also depending on their chemistry. The chance of explosion for unprotected batteries is small anyway, if you don't do things like over-drain or overcharge.

True just have to make sure they don't go under 3.2 volts but for the few extra bucks why even bother?

I swear by these rcr123a batteries that I use in my buzz original. They seem to last much longer than my 2 sets of protected ultrafires (which should last longer...). If you do not feel safe using em though, don't take the risk =)

Renzuli nailed it. Good, protected batteries are essential. Black or red label protected AWs are great batts from RTDvapor or supertmanufacturing. They're both forum suppliers. I buy stuff on eBay but not batteries that will be near my face in my mods.

I would just like to add to the above info that if you are stacking batteries, you should pair them I.E. charge & discharge the same pair at the same time.
