I would like to have a battery that plugs into a wall outlet.
I think they exist...but not sure.
I found this info on the V4L into page..."'You can also use the PT with a portable USB power supply or a USB power adapter, as long as they are 1000mAh.
This sounds like what I want but I do not see it on the V4L website.
I think I would enjoy my cig more if I could taste it better. It seems my battery's work well for a week or 2 then i can't really taste the flavors anymore.
I can taste them more when they are on the passthrough but would like something that plugs into a wall outlet.
If anyone knows if this exists then could you please direct me what to buy and where to buy it. A link would be great. I will buy the wrong thing if left to my own devices. Also I don't know what a USB power adapter is....I just think I want one.
Thanks .

Maybe someone who actually has one of these things can tell me where to get it b/c I really don't understand the spec.'s or anything.
I don't own an ipod or even own a cell phone. I bought a DVD player but then didn't unpack it for 6 months and found out it was broken so threw it out.
If V4L had something on their website then I would order it but they don't so I posted it here. I don't care where I buy it...but I think it might have to work with the V4L passthrough that I already own. Perhaps this is not possible.

OK- I found another thread and someone recommended this...."Here's a link to a 2 Amp Adapter on eBay. I purchased 2 of them, and they work great with the PT.

New US USA AC Charger Power Adapter Plug to USB 5V 2A - eBay (item 250692341278 end time Sep-07-10 11:40:11 PDT)

George

I looked at the item on EBAY but am still not sure it is what I want.
Does anyone know about the above info? It was really cheap. Does it work with the V4L passthrough? And can you just add an extension cord to the devise?

One thing to watch on ebay is that a lot of the 2A output USB wall adapters are apparently from Hong Kong, and you may get whacked with weird import charges -- check the fine print on shipping. A few of them have also had reports on build quality -- covers opening, contacts being exposed.

Walmart is supposed to start carrying some, if they don't already. Otherwise places like Staples carry them -- USB 2A output wall chargers.

Ok I have a question but keep in mind if answering that I am electronically challenged. Regarding the USB 2A output wall chargers or any like it, can it be used like I use the pass thru on my computer, meaning is it just for charging or is it safe to use as a plug in for the pt?

The bad thing about using your computer is, if there's a short it's going to damage your main board (Motherboard). At the very least you'll lose the USB interface, worse case, you'll lose your computer. Better to use a USB wall adapter..

And if it did (on a USB2.0 device), it'd be the end of the motherboard manufacturer. USB specification requires PTC protection.

An example that I'm all too familiar with: 1812L125DR Littelfuse PTC Resettable Fuses

Absolutely. Although it seems to be more common that the power supply suicides, and the PWRGOOD signal goes away and the motherboard goes "nuhuh!" Of course, a surge large enough to jump the gap will destroy everything in there in an instant.

What I normally see take a motherboard is age. The filter caps get soft, leak, and that's the end of it.

That said - our power's pretty clean around these parts. Down in the south - YMMV. ;)

If it's USB 2, yes. If it's USB 1.x - maybe. Dell should for USB 1.x Absolutely for 2.0 or 3.0.

There are lots of things that can kill a USB port besides overcurrent. Overcurrent is the least of their worries for permanent death. Unless it was SO overcurrent that it destroyed the PTC. If that's the case, call the fire department - and a new interior decorator. And probably a surgeon if you were in the neighborhood... ;)

The PTC's do have a limited number of cycles. If you cut the end off a USB cable and were sitting there continuously shorting it together, cackling, resetting, doing it again, giggling, resetting, ... day in and day out - then yeah, that would also kill the PTC.
