So I've been having a bit of trouble with my manual passthru creating a surge on my usb hub. Someone told me thats pretty much normal for laptops. Especially an older one, which mine is.

I got to thinking, hey, my iphone charger has a usb wall socket on it...

Anyone ever tried plugging a manual pt into an iphone wall charger? Can anyone see any reason NOT to do this? I'd rather not fry the usb charger adapter plug thingy....

Yes, and it works great.

Most any AC to USB chargers will work because the 110 V AC wall socket has no problem producing 2 A/hr at the 5V USB port output. The portable / battery USB versions are the problem as they are basically "trickle chargers" and do not produce the required steady state (DC) current required for firing a carto (see any of Adrenalynn's recent posts on the subject). To be sure, check the fine print / labeling to see if it has at least a 1500 or 2000 mA/hr rating; if it doesn't work, this will be why. Some PC USB ports do not have a high enough current rating either, as others have noted. "Unpowered" USB Hubs that do not have an AC adapter (wall wort) fall into this category as well. This is also why your AC wall charger and AC/USB adapters charge your V4L bats much faster than your PCC.

I was going to post about this the other day and didnt because I forgot to.
I went camping last weekend, we have a pop up camper so I had outlets to charge with. Anyway I forgot my wall charger DUH! I did have my iphone charger and my pcc and my usb plug and my car outlet charger.
So anyway I was running out of batteries (chain vapor) by the end of the night and had the brilliant idea of using my iphone charger with my PT (yes I brought that too ) So I was sitting in my little camper vaping away with all my various juice bottles etc. I was a happy camper literally.
I came home Sunday night and BAM my PT doesnt work in my usb anymore. I thought crap it is dirty , I cleaned it, nothing. Nice thing V4L had sent me a freeby once and I saved it so what does my dumb A** do plug it into the iphone charger! It started smoking from the led wire hanging out end UGH! 2 PT's dead in 2 days. I honestly do not know if the smoking wires are coincidence because I never opened that PT before but I wouldnt use my iphone charger again ever for vaping.

Weird... I've been using my PT almost exclusively on my iphone adapter for 5 months now without any problems...

Mine could be just a fluke thing, who knows but thought I would say what happened to me. I would hate to see anyone post something else weird happened and I never said anything about my experience.

I've used my iPod wall adapter. Seems to deliver more power than my laptop so I only use it when I get the power surge problem, which seems to be restricted to certain cartos. Some of my premiums cause the surge, some don't. Never had a surge with a regular, but whatever, I still prefer the premiums by a mile.

Can a PCC be charged with an AC to USB adapter? Would it charge faster as well?
