So, I decided I wanted some cig-looking e-cigs, and supplemented my black/blue 510 stuff from Rocky Mountain Vapor with some white/orange gear from BestECig (mini e cigarette BE510/Joye 510 series).

Everything works OK (atty's not broken in yet), but I was kind of freaking out when I went to charge and use the battery. I got a blinking LED after just a couple puffs. And it blinked when I went to charge it some more as well (I made the blinking go away by pushing the button a couple seconds and then screwing it back in).

But now, even when it's got a full charge and working fine, I get the blinking LED sometimes. But afterward, I can still take a puff (it doesn't shut down after blinking like the ones I got from RMV). I noticed after a while that it only starts blinking after long puffs. I think the deal is, it's got an 8-second cutoff (I timed it a few times), and blinks and stops powering the atty after that.

Has anyone else experienced this? And does anyone know how the battery signals when it's out of power (more blinking, or something else)?

P.S. This isn't a complaint about Best Ecigs -- I only placed the order about a week ago, and Beci sent me a note apologizing for the delay due to a Chinese national holiday, and the unit shipped out Monday and arrived yesterday -- with a 10ml bottle of juice throw in for the "inconvenience" -- whohoo! So much for the "slow boat from China."

i just tried an 8 second drag and i cant even do it...
Hmmm. Maybe I just got a funky battery, or didn't charge it right (I think I may have just hooked it up right out of the box and had a couple puffs).

It's still blinking after a few seconds, but it seems to have good life (hasn't run down to the point of not working -- maybe I should just stop charging it and see how long it takes to stop).

Thanks for the info!

How does the BE510 compare physically to the standard 510? Are they close to the same thing?

Kevin
The white BE510 battery has a white button. Apparently the standard white 510 has a different color on the batt.

The BE510 atomizers seem to have a stiffer draw than the black Joyes I got from Rocky Mountain Vapor, but maybe it's just that the RMV attys are a week old and broken in while I'm still at 1 day of use on each of my 2 BE510s. I think you'd have to try new ones side-by-side for a fair comparison.

The BE510 attys also have a more "pointy" bridge, sticking up in an upside-down V, while the Joyes look more like an upside-down U, and don't seem to stick up as far. If you've got a height-sensitive cart mod (like the pipe screen mod), that could be an issue. They both work pretty well with 510 and 901 carts with fiberfill or PTB.

Based on my brief impression, I'd rather get a Joye 510 than a BE510 (I got the BE510 because I wanted one in white with a red LED). But maybe a broken-in BE510 will turn out to be better.

(The dimensions are identical and totally swappable, if that's what you were wondering)

Bestecig manufacturer's the own products (and generally well made stuff). So, they can add a cut off time to the battery, or point the atomizer a little more, or any change they want. It might be a redesigned 910 battery for all we know. I wanted to try their "take" on the 510--what would you change if you could--but I think I'll hold off to see what the jury decides. Please let us know, because the BE510 is not a JOYE510. You may find something you like better about it. If so let us know!

Someone else reported the exact same behavior with a 510 (not BE510) they ordered from China, so I'm not sure what that means. Maybe it's a design some folks are sharing, or maybe the 510 design is prone to the weirdness the other poster and I have experienced.

So far, there's nothing I like better about it (although the white button is nice), but the cutoff is the only thing I like less, and I still think that might be a freak occurrence. A bigger difference is with the atty, which has a higher, pointed bridge than the Joyes I got from Rocky Mountain Vapor. Too early to say how it'll perform (still breaking it in), but so far it seems like it's more sluggish than the other 510s were (but I can't say for sure, since I don't have 2 breaking in simultaneously for comparison).

One thing about the higher bridge -- it plays havoc with the polyfill in my 901 carts (since you have to twist them to line up with the button). Haven't tried it with 510 carts or 901 with PTB (I prefer PTB for 510s and straw-modded polyfill for 901s, and so far I'm only using the "yellow" 901s I ordered, not the white 510 blanks that came on the attys). Lots of fraying of the polyfill, and threads down in the atty. So far it's not getting hot enough to burn or melt the threads, so I'm not worrying about it. Eventually I'll have to get a toothpick or really fine tweezers (anyone got recommendations?) to get the hairs out. At least I hope the attys will loosen up to the point where they get hot enough for it to be a problem.

This could be bad news, from someone else who had the same problem (with a 510 from InnoVapor): http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...9-510-question-newbie-should-led-blink-2.html

The New 510s have a cut off feature. after 7 seconds of being on the battery wil shut itself off to prevent injury to the atomizer and more importantly the user. The battery will sometimes turn on if you have it in your pocket or somewhere on your person and start to heat the atomizer. if there is no cut off (like the old models) then it can get quite hot draining the battery, shortening the life of the atomizer and potentially singing some hairs.
