Been reading for a while, first post. Few questions

I'd just like to thank everyone for being so helpful. I'm a bit of a noob, and still trying to learn as much as I can. So I figured it was about time I made my first 5 posts to the forum. **disclaimer** I read through my post and it's rambling and long - I apologize. You probably only need to read the last paragraph.....

I started in late October with a V2 kit with their 12mg juice (yeah I know.....) Wasn't enough to get me off analogs. The nic level was too low, and good god those juices were not tasty (Sahara was the only one I could stomach). I tried searching the forums for juice suggestions and info on refilling my own cartos. Seems laughable now, but it was pretty daunting before I found a How-to video lol. I found Backwoods Brew Casablanca and boom, starting preferring the vape taste. I've been sampling other vendor's juices over the months, as well as more of BB. Casablanca is still my main vape, but I find I need a switch up every now and then. I've read this is normal.

I upgraded to SI X2 batteries a few months ago. Love the battery life on these. I thought I was a "heavy" vapor, but my 650 lasts me almost an entire day (wake up - past dinner time ) and my 900 lasts me almost 2 days. So, maybe I'm a medium vapor......obviously some days I vape more than others.

I've mainly been using cartomizers from SI and Bloog. However, I've noticed now after being off analogs for a while that I can taste and smell everything again. After being a pack/+ day smoker for 15 years this is both a good and bad thing. The bad part is that now I think I can taste the filler material in cartos once I get past the first few drags. The vape feels super dry unless the filler is freshly saturated with juice. After much research (Thank you Steeljan) I ordered some 808 1.5mL Phoenix BC clearos. The difference in taste is astounding. However, I am getting dry hits frequently (I use 70pg/30vg juices, so not super thick) I've done the squeeze thing to get bubbles out.....the problem is that I tend to be a chain vapor when I sit down in front of the TV or comp, so these are not optimal for that. Aside from getting new batteries and dripping (I only have autos - I'd rather not risk it even though they are "sealed autos" I understand they still do have a hole ) is there any other option that I've managed to miss? I'm hesitant to go with larger 510 mods to use a tank (lavatube, provari, etc), and hesitant to use adapters. I'll be the first to admit that I'm a complete lunatic when it comes to housefires and the safety of my dogs and cat, (scarring experience as a child with a barn fire killing all the horses....) I understand that this fear will limit my vaping options.
I am not comfortable handling naked batteries, nor am I comfortable storing a lot of batteries in my home. I know a lot of people are not comfortable using adapters - I've come to the conclusion that they can short the battery and cause a dangerous situation? Am I coming to the wrong conclusion on this? Anyway, this post is to clear up my understanding of adapters and see if there are any other options besides the phoenix for X2's. (I've used SI clearos and they leak out the top if you keep them in your pocket, so that's a no go)

Thank you to anyone who responds to this and again I apologize for the rant/ultra long post.

Don't be afraid of the 510 and batteries. Just get protected batteries and follow the general use info you can find here. These batteries have been around far longer than vaping.

I love my vtube, and my kgo (also 510...and pretty much plug and play). Tanks can be a pleasure or a pain...I think I just won a long standing argument with mine after reading what I was doing wrong...a few things honestly. Getting the battery life and power in a 510 style will really help, it does for a lot of people. 808s certainly have their place, but I'd say a high percentage of long term users are on bigger.

For the filling taste...are you sure you are filling your cartos enough, and properly?

Hi and welcome to ECF.
The bad part is that now I think I can taste the filler material in cartos once I get past the first few drags. The vape feels super dry unless the filler is freshly saturated with juice.
You could try a pre punched carto+ tank- keeps the filler/ stuffing continually saturated. I began with Boge cartos, next Smok Tech XL cartos, next carto+ tank, next Vision clearomizers and presently trying a Vivi Nova. "My" faves are the carto+tank and the Vision Clearos.

Thank you for the replies
Thinkingaboutit - I have been considering 510 models that are like my X2's so thank you for the suggestion :) I think I'm more amazed that no one has made a tank for 808 models yet, I know the bigger 808's like X2 are kinda new, but I would really think there would be more of a demand at this point. Yes, I am filling my cartos correctly. They are no dry burning, I think I'm just noticing a difference if I don't continually top them off.

More2 - I am off the analogs now (thank god), I switched to 24mg which is perfect for me at this point. 18mg worked for me, but not enough to completely remove the tempation. But I'm happy it worked for you, less nicotine is always a better choice lol.

welcome you wont find a more informed site on the interweb
as for batt problems they do happen usually from what ive read by people messing about with them and not really playing by the rules of the game
im sure if used and looked after they will die of old age rather than take the owner with them when they go :)
there is probably a stat out there on how many have gone off in relationship to how many sold i bet its tiny tiny amount
either way its less than dying of cancer through stinkies so i look after mine and they serve me well :vapor:

like the phoenix bottom coils
dont leak on me
leaking makes me mad

put it in my pocket and im good to go

if your that scared about the batteries just make sure your up when theyre charging
then unplug the charger when theyre done

ive also seen those safe charging bags for like 15 bucks
you can order them

thosee tiny sticks youve been using wouldnt do it for me
you need something with more power and your not going to find it without a battery

I also started with V2, now I am using a 1100mAh KGO with Vision eGo/stardust clearomizers. This is a great match for me. The stardust I am using right now is a rebuildable type, version 3 I think. I got them from sweetvapes. I like the 1.8 heads, but the 2.4 is ok too. I haven't had a leak yet, and I have cleaned them for about a month, so I am happy. I use 50/50 mix, I mix my own juice. Good luck to you!

There are 808 tanks:
E-Cig Tank | E-Cigarette Tank | Cartomizer Tank | Vapor4Life
Smokeless Image | Only The Best Electronic Cigarette | VOLT X2 Clearomizers - Refill Cartridges

Edit: That's the reason I moved up to carto+tank- even with the XL (holds 1.8 ml) I got tired of filling and monitoring my cartos.

I've used the SI clearos, I haven't had much luck with them not leaking out. as long as they stay upright they seem to be fine, but they do tend to leak out the top. Hopefully they will fix this, SI is a great company, and their customer service is top notch. I had an issue with some regular cartos a while back, and they promptly sent me replacements as well as an extra battery, which I thought was a classy gesture. So I'm not trying to knock them, not even a little bit. I know they are coming out with their own phoenix BC's soon so I'll probably try them and see if they are any better with chain vaping. I'm not getting my hopes up though.

Yeah it's hard to find 808 accessories. Vapor4Life is also a highly regarded ECF vendor and sells the carto tanks.

808 accessories are difficult to find, it kinda sucks. I have seen the V4L tanks, and although they are 808 threaded - they are dual coil, and it's my understanding that my X2 batteries should not be used with dual coil cartos. Unfortunately. If anyone knows if the cartos inside of these tanks can be replaced with a reg carto, I would love to know. I suppose I could simply email them and ask! I'm not thrilled about the idea of buying new batteries that have less battery life than my current 650 and 900's. Thank you also for posting the carto fill video, I have seen it, and I am filling my cartos correctly. It's such a mess though lol. Cartos are fine, I just feel the need to frequently top them off and would prefer a tank to continually do that for me.

Not absolutely certain but I do believe you can use single coil in the tanks. Email them just to be sure though.
Good Luck.

Great. You can either order pre punched cartos or buy a 1/4" saddle valve from Lowes/ Home depot and punch your own. I vape 60/ 40 PG/ VG and used a hammer/ nail making one hole 2.5 mm wide.

**Update**
After plucking through V4L's forum, I learned that you can, in fact, replace the cartos inside with single coil cartos. Now I just get to learn how to punch my own cartos......fun!
