Hi, im fairly new to vaping and im having some trouble understanding some things.

im using a smoktech xpure on a smoktech magneto v2 with some panasonic ncr18650b batteries. I didnt have a ohm meter for about two weeks because i ordered my stuff from two different websites. I was running dual 32g parralel 5/4 wrap around a 5/64 drill bit and today when i received my ohm meter it was reading 0.32ohms which is really low for my batteries i think..

i noticed that the kanthal i ordered off of vaporgeek was alot thicker and harder than the one i ordered from lightningvapes.

should i not use it anymore? was it safe? does anyone know what i was using if it isnt kanthal?

Welcome to ECF, cnguyen...

Per Stem Engine (using genuine Sandvik licensed Kanthal A1)... with a net 10mm leg length, a dual parallel, 32 gauge, 5/4 wrap coils should produce a net resistance of 1.0Ω+/-.

A 5/4 wrap of 28 gauge produces 0.35Ω+/-.

There is a possibility that a coil is shorted against the cap... causing a lower resistance.

If you have a way to accurately measure, 32 gauge is .202mm and 28 gauge is .321mm.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Glad to have you here!:)

You definitely need new batteries. Li-ion batteries are not the way to go.

Since you are new to mech mods and rebuildables I highly recommend you spend some time with Baditude (one of our resident battery experts) and visit his blogs. You are now 100% in control of your own safety (and others around you). Make sure you purchase an ohm reader and a voltmeter or DMM so you can measure your builds, check for shorts and measure the remaining charge on your batteries.

Baditudes Blogs. The blogs regarding battery safety, Ohm's Law, CDR (continuous discharge rating/Amps) and how they all fit together are listed below:

BATTERIES

Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?
* Another essential read to understand which batteries are safe to use in mechanical and regulated mods. Includes a frequently updated list of recommended safe-chemistry, high-drain batteries with their specifications.

Purple Efest Batteries not as Advertised
* A cautionary blog that reveals that the purple Efest batteries may not have the specifications advertised. Also includes a commentary on "continuous discharge ratings" vs "pulse discharge ratings" of battery specs.

OHM'S LAW

Ohm's Law for Dummies (Vapers)
* My attempt at explaining Ohm's Law in layman terms and how it relates to vaping.

Explain it to the Dumb Noob: Ohm's Law Calculations
* As simple as it is to use, some people have a tough time grasping the concept. Warning: Includes graphic photos of mod explosions.

BATTERIES - WHERE TO BUY

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US.

* RTD Vapor
* Illumination Supply
* Lighthound
* Orbtronics
* Battery Junction**

** Ships to Canada
