55year smoking habit came to an end 24aug2013. Tried all the pharma methods and hypnosis but none of them worked.
Dual smoked/vaped for a month before going to 3-a-day one week, 2-a-day second week, 1-a-day third week and then stubbed out the last one.
Have decided the addiction is long gone but still vaping for the hand/mouth habit and the pleasure it gives me.
Good luck.

Hi everyone,
I am a public health researcher from Melbourne and I am an advocate for harm reduction approach for the smokers who tried thousands of ways to quit, but fail to do so. I have done research in that aspect and found that e-cigarettes were helpful for those people to stop smoking. I am keen to know more about this from the e-cigarette users. Hence, I have joined the forum to gain further understanding. Hope that I would be supported.
Thanks.

Dear all,
I am really overwhelmed with all the welcome notes and sharing all of your success stories. I do really appreciate to direct me to further testimonials from the real life experts. You may want to know a bit about my research papers on this:
Electronic cigarettes: patterns of use, health effects, use in smoking cessation and regulatory issues
E-Cigarettes and Smoking Cessation: Evidence from a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
I am really keen to know further about the quitting experiences. You know that research can lead to change of policy and practice. I am considering to do short scale survey soon to start with.
Much appreciated again for your support for me.
Thanks.
Aziz
If the goal is to quit smoking vaping is a treatment, not a magic pill. Motivation,, expectations, and support matter.

Dual use shouldn't be an issue. I was a dual user intentionally to give myself time too learn to vape. Stopping smoking entirely was may be 20% of the effort compared too cold turkey and low stress because vaping had already reduced my daily cigs 80% with no effort and I knew a relapse would only be back to 5 cigs a day instead of 25. A brother of mine was a dual user for 10 months.

You start vaping without worrying about quitting smoking. The most iimportant thing is don't stop vaping. If you do that you'll smoke less. If you never stop vaping sooner or later you'll stop smoking. I found over the six weeks that cigarettes were not tasting so good and giving me a headache instead of satisfaction. Still, after going to zero cigs there was a month or two where I pined for a smoke. That went away. Today I could smoke a cigarette with zero risk of relapse. They taste awful. As long as I can vape I'm cured, which is much better than merely quitting smoking.

The tobacco age will end sooner if governments do what they do best--nothing.

Hello,

I tried to quit cold turkey (succeeded for a few weeks once), I tried weaning myself off of them, and I tried using the patch. I didn't try chantix because some of the side effects concerned me. I had given up on ever quitting and then I saw a blu commercial. I got on the internet and did a lot of reading (most right here on this forum). I ordered a little 510 kit for me and one for hubby and away we went. I'm 6 years smoke-free as of April and about 5 years give or take nicotine free.

Over a period of 15 years I tried to quit smoking, more than twice a year but at least two serious quit attempts a year, I tried the patch, the gum, the inhaler, support groups, the pills, books etc etc and nothing worked because well I figure I actually like nicotine, kind of like how I like caffeine..

Then I tried vaping, the first one I tried was a cigalike produced by big tobacco, it was a joke nothing more than a gimmick, I thought wow this vaping thing sucks... Two years later I decided to try something better than that and went to a vape shop, tested some flavors and found a couple I liked, bought a better vape and havent had a smoke in just over 2 years after smoking 22 years...

Sadly, in this respect I fear nothing has changed.
Blu, Greensmoke, Vuse, Vype, Mark10.
If there was any real consumer awareness about e-cigarettes the tobacco company products would be down and out for the count.
It actually makes me kind of happy e-cigarette advertising is now illegal in Europe. We don't have to carry around a bucket to be physically sick at the marketing spouted by Blu and Vype.
People are now forced (for want of a better word) to ask vapers rather than be fooled by big tobacco marketing.
Are you out there UK tobacco co. e-cigs? Nobody likes your products... you might think they do because people buy them but eventually there will be a day of reckoning and you're gonna lose.
You can bend social media with your £millions but social media is full of fake stuff. The people will eventually catch up... trust me.
