Hmm, I did not see anyone else with my hobby, speak up if you are a fellow equestrian. I have been riding horses for well over thirty years. I just ride for pleasure, mostly trail riding with arena schooling thrown in to keep me and my horse always advancing our skills, no matter how slow, we always progress.

My current horse is a 12 year old APHA solid-bred mare. She can be a real handful, but she is a good horse for me, a challenge but not going to get me killed. We have been a team since 2005, and we are tightly bonded, I am pretty much the only one that has ridden her since she was a four year old so she thinks she doesn't have to listen to anyone but "mom". We are working on that.

Any other riders out there?

Yes, another rider here!! (I think there was one more.) Other than length of riding career, my riding story is much like yours. (I was horse crazy as all get out from at least age 3 but was 53 before I finally got a horse - a 3 y/o unbroken, breeding black Egyptian-related stallion - my dream horse!) Now gelded, I am his sole rider. He is a character!! We also have a paint horse (my hub's mount, although he rarely rides anymore); and two mustangs, a mare and a gelding, both of which I ride and work with training-wise.

Current hobbies other than riding/vaping/ECF:

Animals - we have 4 horses; 1 dog right now (down from 3); 6 cats; 4 parrots; 2 parakeets; a lone finch. A fair amount of time involved keeping them all "fat and happy."

I have been into photography (digital) for about a dozen years, and enjoy sometimes using photos for creating digital art with photoshop/editing software. Love the search for a great photo op.

Nature enthusiast and keep track of the wildlife on our property, learned to identify the wildflowers of Kansas, do some bird watching. We live about a mile from a state lake/park, where I often go with my cameras.

I have always been a reader and enjoy a wide variety of subjects, both fiction and nonfiction.

Have had other hobbies in the past, but these are it currently.

Nice to "meet" you! What is horsekeeping like in the midwest? Sounds like you have good trails nearby? I live in the very heart of horse country for Northern California. I live close to the Western State's Trail that runs from Squaw Valley all the way to Sacramento. The Tevis Cup is held on that trail every year ending in the town of Auburn where I work. Many of the trails my friends and I ride on connect with that trail system. To some folks, this area is considered "The Endurance Captial of the World" due to the 100 mile Tevis and the 100 mile Western State's run that are held here annually. People come from all over the world to compete in both.

I have an eclectic mix of hobbies I guess... Let me preface this stating I'm a 31 y.o. male:

Music (Violin/piano/guitar for what seems forever)
SCUBA (PADI since I was 15: mainly Fingerlakes but have done a weeks vacation in the Bahamas and Honduras)
Travel (fortunately I have traveled a lot: Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil, Bahamas, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and ... Canada :))
Crochet (out of boredom within the past year)
knitting (my grandma taught me and is quite relaxing)
DJ (all types but do prefer 'electronic' genres)
A/V (used to be a sound manager and recently learned lighting)

I'm a hugely involved gardener, including breeding my own plants and maintaining mostly organically (I actually follow IPM, or Integrated Pest Management, which doesn't disallow creative chemistry when required). My blog (listed in my signature) chatters on about a lot of that if you're curious.

I make soap for fun, and sometimes scents or lotions. I haven't purchased a bar of soap in...well, a very long time.

I make electronics, mostly LED lights. One enjoyable challenge is getting the most light for the least energy. Most recently, I'm getting into using AT microchips in my projects.

I read. Constantly.
