Hello all, I am looking to start DIY mixing but also looking to get the best bang for the buck. Since PG/VG are both relatively cheap and its the nicotine that is the most expensive part. Would you recommend going with 36mg/ml of nicotine and using less PG/VG in a mix or going with 100mg/ml. Granted with the 100mg/ml nic base I will be mixing in more PG/VG but from a cost standpoint what is your opinion.

If you are just starting out, you probably should not be using 100mg nic unless you know what you are doing, and are well versed in hazmat procedures/precautions.

There are even some commercial juice vendors who do NOT hve 100mg nic in their facility and only keep 36 around for the health and safety of their workers.

Most bang for the buck won't apply unless you have a dedicated room as well as proper head/face gear as well as proper ventilation, it won't be a bargain if you cause fatal injury to yourself, a family member, or a beloved pet.

I've found that 60mg is 'bout the be$t bang fer da buck. PLUS, sixty is a multiple of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15 and 30. Now that's ratio flexibility!

Ugh... Math nerds! :p

I started mixing with 36mg. But my next order will be 60. Just seems like I'll be able to keep it around longer.

Oh so very nice to know that someone else (besides me) sees these computations in their brain. However, based on the OP's new entrance to DIY, I recommend 36 mg nic for his first mixing order.

He still gets multiples of 2, 3, 4, 6, and 12. That should be enough for calculating and staying safe for now. Agree?

Thank you all for your replies, I understand that nicotine is a potent toxin and I do have safety equipment Lab coat, eye goggles, gloves. Only reason I would see need for a face shield is splatter, but I will be mixing in a graduated cylinder not using syringes but a lab style pipette with pump for accuracy. After looking at additional information and the LD50 for nicotine I will be purchasing the 60mg/ml.

But heres a question on the LD50, it says the LD50 for rats and rabbits is 50mg/kg via dermal contact, which means the LD50 for me at 122 kilos would be about 3660mg or 36.6grams of pure nicotine, not a dilute 100mg/ml solution. Now I understand lots of bad stuff happens before you reach the LD50 and it would leave me with a 50/50 chance of dying. However, wouldn't 100 mg at my body weight just make me kinda dizzy and upset to my stomach if I were to get at least 1ml on my skin?

I use 100mg/ml PG to mix so that I can have the variable of just about any PG/VG mix that I want. Liquid nicotine is a poison that can cause sickness and/or death, but with proper care and insight and measurement, you'll be ahead of the game by going 100mg/ml.

I like 100mg/ml for my math. I mix base in 100ml batches...seriously, it's DEAD simple on the math side.

I use gloves and glasses. I mix in a tray by a sink just in case. I mix my base in a glass jar so less "syringe precision placement" is needed to get the opening. I operate safely, and I read a lot first. I don't feel that my nic level is a risk since I would do the same precautions with 60mg/ml and going lower seems to save less and less.

Forget worrying about the lethal dose. If you put five or so drops of 100mg/ml on your hand and rub it in like it's lotion and wait, in about 5 minutes you'll be sick as a dog.

For many things in life, Experience > Knowledge. I've gotten very dizzy when I forgot to wash my hands just dealing with 24mg when I was sloppy, probably about 0.25 to 0.5 ml on my hands over the course of 20 or so minutes.

And the last thing you want is to be thinking "Hey, it's not like I'm at the median lethal dose or anything" as you lie in the bathroom floor waiting for the next time your body tried to make you vomit.

Edited to add: Not that I think you shouldn't get the 100mg/ml. But I still buy the 24mg/ml just because I don't feel the need to make the jump from 2¢ per mg of nic to something less. (I buy 250ml for $13ish)
