i am a high powered LED flashlight fanatic. if you want the best you should be looking at batteries that are used to power flashlights. the best? i'd say the NiteCore 3400mah Nitecore 18650 3400mAh 3.7V Protected Lithium Ion (Li-ion) Button Top Battery - Blister Pack (NL189)

they have the highest and TRUE capacity you will ever find in a 18650 battery, good for well over 500 charge cycles.
good reviews, but the question is what are you willing to spend for the "best"? :)

they also have the 2600mah for less money if you don't care about capacity as much and still one of the best batteries out there.

no no no no no no no no no no . . . .. . . no :|

ICR? unkown CDR?
that is not an appropriate battery for vaping (from what I've read ↓ anyway)

you don't need 20Amps+ battery, but if it makes you feel better go right ahead. ;-)

honestly, i doubt a vaping mod uses more power drain than some of my 1,500+ lumen flashlights that i have which can drain several 3,000mAh+ battery in 20-30 minutes. i don't know of ANY vapor device that can drain a battery that fast, even with continuous use. perhaps if you're using dual, tripple or quad coil device (ie those absurd 100W+ mods) then yes, go for high amp battery.. for me, single coil 60W mod the battery works great.. i have a dozen or so 2,500mah 18650s with higher amps, but i choose the Nitecore because it has the most capacity and i get more out of it from a single charge.

What is everyone's opinion on EFEST? They have a 35A 3000mah that I want to try. I mean, it seems like they are the only company that issues out certifications to vape shops, has their own website, such and forth. I certainly notice a difference between my current EFEST battery and my off brand clone Sony 18650. Thoughts?

I avoid Efest batteries like the plague.

Dear God, no! Don't even think about it. Never use flashlight batteries in a vape mod. They're for flashlights. Capacity is good. But for vaping, amperage is better. I looked that one up. Nitecore doesn't even list an ampacity rating, and @Mooch hasn't got it on his chart. But at 3400 mAh, it isn't going to be much. Probably a 10 amp battery.

we aren't talking about your average flashlight here. these are high drain batteries for ultra powerful flashlights. even the description says so:
"These rechargeable 18650 batteries are perfect for high drain devices such as the intense LED flashlights from Nitecore, video game consoles, appliances, and more"

i get almost 1 week from them using them in a 60W vape mod, or 25 minutes at full load in my flashlight and they barely get warm. ;-)

That's not a good answer. All batteries have compromises. There might be a best battery for a specific purpose but there is no best battery if you have not nailed down the specific requirements.

You don't want to use a protected li-ion for vaping, ever. They aren't built to take the amp draw safely, which is why they have protection circuits. Powering an LED array != shorting a battery with a small piece of resistance wire. Because an LED has very little resistance value on its own a high power flashlight will have resistors in the circuit to keep the amp draw at manageable levels.

You gave bad, dangerous advise. Your comments should be buried but it isn't possible here. OP specifically asks about subohming and you suggest a low drain protected battery.

look, make your own decision what you think is best. all i am saying is i use them for my mod and have no problem. i am not a novice when it comes to batteries. i own nearly 3 dozen 18650 batteries and 10 different chargers. what works for me, might not work for you.

No.
Any li-ion with a protection circuit built into the cell is a low drain cell.
Compared to a subohm mech your high powered flashlights are low drain devices.
You should never use a low drain battery in an APV.

it has nothing to do with being a "protected circuit"
a protected cell is for safety, to prevent from over charging and over discharging. every cell that is protected has it's own rating. i would rather use a protected cell and have it cut power instead of overloading then a cell that is unprotected which can cause it to explode. again, make your decision with what you purchase. i myself do not buy unprotected cells, because years ago one exploded on me and i almost went blind due to over discharging at high rate.

Making a decision on what to use is separate from declaring a best. All battery design is a compromise between requirements even in very similar items.

You clearly are. You came into a thread and gave the worst possible advise, especially given the parameters of the OP's question. You aren't citing any data over advertising (which is always, always 100% accurate). Anyone that has done more than half an hour of research on the common 18650s and battery chemistry knows that you don't know what you are talking about, it shows in each one of your posts here.

opinions, everyone's got them. go ahead and continue buying your unprotected cells.

Sometimes the best choice for an individual is a battery that can cover a small range of applications but it will not be the best for any one of those applications but still meet the minimum requirements.

On a flashlight with adjustable output. Battery A might be most efficient at 100 lumens but functional in the entire range the light produces, battery B might be most efficient at 330 lumens and has a slight drop in how efficient it is going higher or lower but work in the entire range. Battery C might be the most efficient at 60 lumens and give the best run time of all the batteries but cannot produce the 2000 lumens were the light maxes out.
