Size? How big or small do you want?
Form factor? A tube mod or a box mod?
Replaceable batteries? Or is a disposable OK?
Do you want no voltage regulation (mechanical mod), single voltage regulated, VV, or VV/VW (APV)?
Cost? As mentioned before cost matters and quality varies with every different mod model at every price level. Remember that you should have two mods capable of equal performance with one as a back-up. When you upgrade to a mod you should always buy two of them, not just one. Things break, get lost, fall into a toilet, etc.

If you go the removable battery route, you're best of not getting a kit with some no-name battery and charger. A good quality AW, Sony or Panisonic IMR high drain 18650 battery, with a Nightcore or Xtar charger will last longer and perform better while being interchangeable in a large variety of mods if you decide to upgrade in the future.

This route would allow you to use the same batteries in a wide variety of mech mods or regulated mods with only needing to buy the tube or box alone.....:vapor:

as vaping is all about personal experience it really does depend

however typically a good "starter" is a variable voltage ego battery, a (glass) protank (bottom coil tank gives cooler vape) and a metal vivi nova (top coil tank give warmer vape)

as for mod? depends on mechanical or not....if not than I guess a Vamo would be a starter? But there again it all goes to taste and price itaste svd seems to be good.

but these days there are all sorts of options out there....me personally had they had this when I started vaping

Best beginners mod wouldn't be a mechanical...

I vote for itaste mvp2 or vv3.0 $40&$26 on 101vape.com I've owned both for about 6 months now. MVP got ran over by a 3ton van.. old fully loaded with equipment, still works the same as I bought it.. with some scratches.
No extra batteries, or need to know current ratings of them, because that is just as important in a boost regulated mod as mechanical.

They both come with iclear's, which are in the class of easiest tanks to use..dry hit? Just tip upside down and swirl liquid around for a second. Protanks take some troubleshooting a lot of the time. Carto tanks are really easy, and a relatively fuss free vape if primed correctly. I started with carto tanks, and outside of rebuildable atomizers.. ones without flavor wicks. .they give the best vape.

Opinionated fact.

hi, i started with an ego vv battery and an evod and it's poisoning me to upgrade to better equipment..lol
if i had known earlier that vaping's so good, i'd go with a vv/vw device with 18650 imr battery for longer vape time and a good atomizer, even small ego battery kits has the advantage of their small size for easy carrying
currently i'm happy with a zmax and carto tank combo, and after learning for a few months i started using a clone mech and and a clone rda..

I started with low budget eGo twist that I bought multiple ones. I vaped with them quite a long time. Then I got Vamo V5 a little while ago. I really like it even if I want to own Provari. It is just out of my budget at the moment. Vamo has a reasonable price tag considering all its features. FastTech has many low budget mods. I recommend you to checkmit out. :)

Vaping since 2012. Newest mod Vamo V5. Hopefully I have enough money to buy Provari some day!
