Hi everyone,

I have recently switched from a Kangertech Aerotank to a nautilus Aspire, but I am still very frustrated with the burnt taste/dry hits and gurgling I get from both clearomizers/coils. I cant stand it anymore!

I know that using 100% VG is pretty harsh on any coil, but is there anything (maybe new) that would allow me to vape without thinking of going back to cigarettes because of that damn disgusting burn taste?

Oh and compatible with a 510 battery would be great!

Thanks for your help
Kim

You are using two of the better tanks. I can't think of anything better you could try for use with your battery.

If you are getting a burnt taste (we call those "dry hits"), if usually means your wick cannot pull the eliquid fast enough to keep up with your battery. There are a couple of things you can do:

1. Dial down your voltage. This will vaporize the eliquid at a slower rate (if your battery allows you to do this)
2. Decrease the airflow, if your tank has adjustable airflow. The decrease in airflow will increase vacuum inside the tank's atomizer, which should increase the flow of juice to the wick..
3. Take a sharp draw (or two) on your drip tip (without engaging your battery). This will pull more eliquid into the coil so that it will be available when you press the battery button and take a draw.

You will get the feel of this over time and develop a sense of how often you will need to do this to avoid "dry hits". The PG/VG ratio of your eliquid also comes into play, as VG is thicker than PG . If you use high VG try adding a few drops of distilled water (per ml of juice) to your tank to thin out the eliquid. You could also install a higher ohm coil.

It's not a problem of being too harsh on the coil, it's that 100% VG is way to viscous and will always cause problems in a clearomizer. It cannot wick properly. As Susan said, you will have to thin your juice with some distilled water, dial down your voltage, constantly prime before every few draws, or just simply lower the VG content of your juice if at all possible. Why are you vaping 100% VG might I ask? Do you have a PG intolerance?

Another solution would be to learn to build your own coils and get an RTA, but not any RTA... It would have to be a Billow or Silverplay since they have extremely deep juice channels.

Susan~S :
I will try all 3 suggestions

PG makes my lips and throat sooo dry! It also made my eyes burn like I had seasonal allergies. Even 80 VG 20 PG would cause this.
I'll try to do couple of research before building my own coils. Cuz I'm completely unfamiliar with these.

Well in that case stay away from PG! Try the other suggestions before going to building your own coils. Building you own coils is fun and you can customize your vape but it takes a lot of research, safety, and know-how. However, those RTA's I suggested are designed for 100%VG juices and will work just fine.

Edit: Do you consume plenty of water? Vaping is known to dehydrate and if you increase your water intake substantially, you may be able to use PG. Food for thought.

Yes I do. I did notice that I needed to drink more water when I started to vape. But with 100%VG i'm fine, while with a mix PG/VG even if I drink 2 liters of water I still have the symptoms I described.

May I ask if you see any RTA available on fasttech.com that would be adapted for 100% VG?

Something like the lemo/lemo drop is very popular. However, you're going to have a bit of learning curve, and then you're going to have to deal with the battery, etc. It could all become a bit much very quickly. For tanks with coils, the subtank mini or nano seems to do better with high-vg eliquids, but again it'd be murder on your battery at 1.2ohm.

I'd listen to Susan on this one*, and thin your eliquid with distilled water and/or a bit of vodka. Something like 10% by volume (mixed well, or you can do some drops per tank) makes it be more like 70/30 PG/VG. That's basically what companies like Velvet Cloud do so that their 100% VG eliquids work in clearomizers -- dilute with VG and make sure there's enough flavoring to mask it.

*and most things, unless she says you've won a prize and just need to forward her a fee for processing it.

My wife had a problem with PG as well. She started using Virgin Vapors Absolutly Virgin "Best Damn Tobacco" (smell like a big freshly opened package of cigs) and she is a happy camper and been off the analogs for over a month now. She uses an Aspire Nautilus without issues.

Oh my god, I just read about the Joytech Delta II. People who smoke 100%VG seem to think it's working pretty smoothly.

Do you guys agree with that idea? And is there anything about this model that I should be aware of before buying it?

You mean "vape".

I'm not very familiar with the Delta II, but I wouldn't doubt it if it were able to handle high VG concentrations, especially with the rebuildable section.

I had that problem with the Atlantis as well. You should only need to add a few drops of water to a 15ml full juice bottle. Be sure to prime the coil as much as possible, and then do it some more. Put a few drops of juice in the top of the coil and allow them to soak a few seconds and do it again. Pull the positive pin out of the bottom of the coil and add a drop or two of liquid in there and let it soak a few seconds before putting the pin back in, as well as a small drop to each of the juice holes on the side. Allow it to sit upright on top of your mod (with a full tank of juice) for 5 minutes or so, then do a few quick pulls while plugging the air holes to draw an extra bit of juice in and then fire it up. Start out on lower watts and work your way up after a few pulls. I found that it wasn't necessarily burning every hit, but if not primed correctly and it burned once, the burnt flavor would not go away no matter how much juice I sucked in while plugging the air holes.

Note: be sure the leads on the coil go back under the grommet/pin properly before installing the coil to the base of the tank.

..if you DIY you pretty much know exactly what you're putting in. No reason to dilute it unless you're not wicking well in a tank or something., VG carrier nic base, the only thing that goes into my juices that isn't VG is flavorings, and I never go above 5%. Never really had much trouble with the Atlantis, my coils last a solid week, and really could last longer but I try to change them weekly, but I'm also not vaping any colored, oily or gunky flavorings. If anything from my experiences distilled water hurts wicking more than helps.
